"Big Xtra" in the U.S?

At the McDonald’s branches up here in Canada, it’s been possible to order the “Big Xtra” for quite some time now. I assumed that it was also available in the united states. Recently, though, I’ve seen McDonald’s commercials on american TV channels advertising the “Big 'n Tasty” (or something like that). This “Big 'n Tasty” looks just like the “Big Xtra” (based on the commercials). I’m curious about this. Has the “Xtra” been available in the states all along? Is the “Tasty” a new product? Was the “Tasty” test-marketed here as the “Xtra”?

Yeah, I know it’s a silly question, but it’s been bugging me lately.

It was known as the “Big 'n Tasty” when they first started selling it (before that, their “tomato-equipped burger” was the Arch Deluxe, which sucked ass), but recently they’ve began calling it the “Big Xtra” (or “Extra”).

Anyway, yeah, they’re essentially the same thing.

Well, here in NY state, it’s been the Big Xtra for about 2 years, but 3 months ago, they changed it to the Big n’ Tasty, while also reducing the patty from 1/3 lb to 1/4 lb. Other than that, it’s the same sandwich.

Jman

then it’s not the same.

BurgerKing intrudced their big mac alternitive so McD made a whopper which was the big xtra.

[my wag] the big xtra was not selling well but they didn’t want to advertise a whopper alternitive (‘hey that whopper alternitive looks good on TV, what do you say we get one?, On the other hand lets get the origional the whopper’) so the big and tasty was born [/my wag]

So let’s see… we have the Whopper, the Big n’ Tasty/Xtra, the Famous Star, and the Jumbo Jack.

Funny thing is, an In ‘n Out burger beats the pants off o’ all of 'em.

Thanks, guys.

Actually, I think that the Big Xtra is pretty good, especially since it costs about half of most other fast food burgers ($1.50 here – about one dollar U.S.).

In more important news, the Big Chef (gurgle…) is now back at Hardees, at least in my town.

Oh yeah… In 'N Out burger, another fan here.
