Bill Maher at The Sands

If Bill Maher is so much against Sheldon Addleson, why do you suppose he’s performing at The Sands later this year?

Do you know what forum you posted this in?

Probably because he’s being paid to? What does his beef with the owner’s politics have to do with staging a show in a particular venue?

Please leave the moderating to us, please.

Money.

Bill Maher is kind of contrarian in where he does his live shows. For example, he did a whole series of gigs exclusively in red states in which Huckabee won the GOP primary. I guess he sees himself as a kind of political evangelist, and so he seeks out venues where people disagree with him the most, in order to sway them. Just sayin’, which I guess you know, because you just read me say it, pretty self-evident really (a little Maher schtick for ya).

Because the other casinos require vaccinations?
/Thank you! I’ll be here all week.

I’ve admittedly never been to The Sands, but I kind of doubt that the political leanings of the people that go there have anything to do with that of its owner. Just as poeple that watch the Simpsons probably aren’t any more or less likely to agree with Rupert Murdoch then the general population.

But the OP’s attempt at a gottcha is pretty lame. Plenty of performers work at venues owned by people they disagree with. There isn’t any presumption that doing so somehow is an endorsement of that persons actions or views.

Well, U2 has performed at Cowboys Stadium and Pope John Paul II said Mass at Yankee Stadium. Does anybody take that as a ringing endorsement of Jerry Jones or George Steinbrenner?

Sometimes an arena is just an arena.

The point is that Bill Maher is helping Sheldon Addleson make money so that he can give to the GOP.

Sheldon Adelson is already worth about $35 billion. How much more do you think he will make from a one-time event like a Bill Maher appearance?

Then you don’t know who his audience was. Bill’s whole point in his interview with Huckabee was to say that the people who came to the shows in those states were exactly like those in all the blue states – all liberal diehard Maher fans. He was making a case for national unity. Huckabee can go on all he wants about “God, Guts, Guns and Gravy” but Maher’s hopeful premise is that there are intelligent people in ALL states, red or blue.

Apparently at least a few more billion, since someone thought to post a thread about it.

Just in case anyone was confused, as I was, Maher is performing at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA, in June. There is no longer a Sands Casino in Las Vegas; it was torn down by Adelson in 1996 to make way for the Venetian, and later the Palazzo.

When Maher performs in Las Vegas, he usually plays the Palms Casino. I saw him there last year.

Carry on.
