Binging on old Loony Tunes and Merrie Melodies on Daily Motion

For a few months now I’ve been watching three or four old cartoons per night on Daily Motion. I’ve watched a lot of old favorites: Tom & Jerry, Mickey Mouse, and of course the Warner Brothers cartoons. I’ve seen a few cartoons with bits restored which had always been excised due to racial insensitivity, and that was revealing. I’ve seen some bits which had been restored which were completely uncontroversial, which was puzzling.

But the big surprise was one I watched last night: “Big House Bunny”, a typical Bugs Bunny/Yosemite Sam vehicle. I had never seen it before! I thought there no Warner Brothers cartoons I hadn’t seen at least once.

I see why this one didn’t make regular rotation. It was pretty brutal, even as cartoon violence goes. It’s a prison story comedy, and Yosemite Sam gets hung on the gallows and gets electrocuted in the electric chair. The 'toon is practically at Itchy & Scratchy level.

Here it is. Anyone remember seeing it on television? I sure don’t.

I remember it, but it would have been at least 45 years or so ago. Not all that great. It sure ain’t the Robin Hood/Sheriff of Nottingham 'toon.

Hmm…I don’t have any distinct recollection of it. Yosemite Sam’s last name is Schultz?

Oh yes. I’ve definitely seen this 'un plenty back in the '90s.

Yes, I remember seeing it, but as you stated it was not in the normal rotation because of the excessive violence (and was edited because of that) in later showings

ive been looking for a site that shows all the looney tunes and mgm shorts … for some reason time warner is sitting on tons of cartoons for no apparent reason … I mean I know speedy Gonzalez is a stereo type but I had to explain to my little nephew who he was …
and I know warners made the worst cartoons after chuck jones poached all of their staff for mgm in the late 60s (remember bunny and claude “a rabbit and his broad” ? )

I mean if they let me in the vaults and let me program boomerang…

I’m sad that they took the “Acme Hour” off. They had tons of the old cartoons, even a few black and white ones.

Well, everyone wanting to watch old cartoons in their entirety, try the website Daily Motion. I first separately google something like “List of I. Freleng cartoons”, then scan down the list to see if there’s anything I don’t remember seeing or have only seen one or twice. Then I type that title into Daily Motion. That’s how I found “Big House Bunny”.

A particularly good channel in Daily Motion is “Devon Baxter”. Many of his cartoons have commentary tracks by contemporary animators talking about their heroes from the golden days of animation.

This one’s my favorite. John Kricfalusi is talking to one of the still-living animators from the awesome classic “Falling Hare”, directed by Bob Clampett, while watching that cartoon.

Great channel!
