Biologists, please tell me about Molecular Imaging

I did a search, came up empty. I think it’s relatively new technology.

What little I’ve read, seems to show that this may well finally let us see what is going on in our bodies as it is happening.

What is diff about it, causing so much excitement? Please answer as tho speaking to a slightly intelligent (one step up from slugs) layperson.

Molecular Imaging

As far as I can tell, molecular imaging is not a single technology but a general term for a variety of methods that allow one to observe events at a molecular level.

There’s lots of stuff out there.

My one, allowable {{{{BUMP}}}}

Maybe, it’s a better workday Q than a weekend one.

Why bump when you’ve already been answered?

I was hoping for some people working in the field to post, rather than a news story. The news commenting on this was why I posted in the first place.

The article Colibri linked to was very interesting, and much more detailed than I had seen, so thanks for that.

But, nothing beats hands on experience to explain some of the details and future implications, ok Smeghead? That’s what I was hoping for. BTW, love the name…

If the thread dies, I’ll find something else to satisfy my curiosity.

Well as from someone who has done quite a bit of research on the subject since it is a main topic in my newest novel, you can see a lot of information on Molecular Imaging here .

In it’s very essence molecular imaging has come so far in such a reletively short period of time one could question how it was humanly possible…Scientists can actually look at the inner working of say a cancer cell from with-in the cell itself. Crazily high tech, it makes we wonder why cancer has not been cured yet knowing how much the Government already knows about it. And Yes I did say government, the National Institute of Health is where I did most of my research, and it is governmentally run. Have fun looking at the studies, you should have a blast learning about all the facets of electron-imaging and what they can actually do…

Oh My Gawd! Thanks, Phlosphr. (Now my head hurts… There’s so much!)

Um, e-mail the title of your book?.. if in print as we speak…

This really does seem huge to me, too. That’s why my curiosity sensors went to Condition Red when I caught my 1st glimpse of it.
