The Washington Post had an article about celebrations of Birkat Hachamah in DC.
It’s a nice little article about a minor Jewish holiday I’d never heard of before. Then I came to this passage:
![]()
Um, for the last decade or three Cat Stevens has gone by Yusuf Islam. He famously converted to Islam before these 20-somethings were born.
So is a bunch of Jewish young people singing this song at a Jewish celebration:
- An attempt to include a thematically appropriate song in the ceremony,
- An attempt to reach out to Muslims by including works from one of their famous singers,
- An attempt to greet OpalCat,
or some combination of the above?
I’m not really looking for an answer, I just had to share this mundane and pointless item.
