Biscuits and Gravy for breakfast - you want some?

This was a staple in the Inexplicable household prior to my spouse’s deactivation.
I am adequate at cooking the dish, so I answered ‘both’ in the poll.

Where I live, the local diner does an excellent job of a standard Southern version of biscuits and gravy. I usually get a side order of meat of some sort.

And thanks, you have made me hungry for this and it is 2244 EDT here.
<shakes fist>

I have a little corner restaurant where I order biscuits and gravy with over easy eggs. I always order a side bowl of grits with it. When I finish up the biscuits and eggs, there is always gravy and egg yolk left over on the plate. I scrape the gravy and yolk into the as yet untouched grits, then add hot sauce, butter and salt. Mmmmmmmdroooool.

The waitress has commented that she has never seen anyone else do that. They don’t know what they’re missing, I say.

They serve biscuits and gravy in the little cafe where I work. It contributes daily to te destruction of my girlish figure.

Sounds good…with some really strong black coffee alongside, a person could go out and take over the world.

About once a week, with sausage links. But somehow coffee doesn’t seem quite right with them since there’s nothing sweet.

I’ve only had B&G for breakfast back in the days when I used to do movie extra work. I could tell it was going to be a good day (food-wise) if I hit the breakfast line and there were biscuits and gravy available. Screw the egg-whites only veggie omelet, I’m having some biscuits and gravy!

Darn you all, now I regret that I no longer do extra work (not that I miss the 5:00 a.m. call times with my hair in rollers…)

As the granddaughter of a logger, biscuits and gravy is in my blood, just like Oreos and Blazing Saddles. (Not sure if they’re actually related or just some things my grandfather really loved.)

One of my goals is learning to make really good biscuits and gravy, but it’s not really compatible with my goal to not gain any more weight before the wedding.

Canadian here, and I have never heard of that for breakfast before. Now that I think of it I can’t even picture biscuits covered in gravy for any meal.

If I saw it at a restaurant I probably wouldn’t order it, but I would try a bite of someone else’s.

Maybe I shouldn’t have voted yes, since I can’t eat it anymore, but before I developed an intolerance to lactose, I loved it. There’s a breakfast place near my grandparent’s house that uses sausage and pepper bacon in the gravy. Absolutely divine.

Seconded, two thumbs up! I wish I had more thumbs so I could signal stronger agreement.

Yes, I want biscuits and gravy and I will have biscuits and gravy!

I dated a guy that would cook me biscuits, gravy and eggs the morning after. LOVED him. Well, not really, but I did love the food!!!

I’ve been living in Canada off and on for about five years now, and I’ve yet to find Jimmy Dean’s Pure Pork Sausage. Maple Leaf, yes; it’s okay, but not as well seasoned as JD’s. I’m tempted to make a batch of my own recipe from scratch: ground pork, sage, cloves, some crushed red pepper flakes, a little bit of salt, and LOTS of dark brown (raw!) sugar … mmmmmmmmmmm!!!

PS: When it comes to breakfast biscuits, I’m a Bisquick man myself.

Silly Took, you forgot …

I love the stuff but rarely eat it - maybe once a year or so. Make it from scratch, can’t abide whack-a-biscuits when it is so easy to make them, same with store bought gravy mixes. And it has to be made with whole milk, not skim or low fat.

This is not gravy. This is paste.

In my world, gravy is brown. Every time I’ve seen “sausage gravy”, it’s a strange white goo with chunks in it, and I just can’t get excited about it. My husband really likes the stuff, so he only gets a chance to eat it when we’re out for breakfast. I find it very, very salty, and I tend to prefer my breakfasts sweeter, with pancakes and maple syrup and such.

If you want, you can call it a “sausage bechamel,” if gravy must be brown in your world, but gravy comes in all sorts of shades. It’s also known as “sawmill gravy.”

Now I’m in the mood for sawmill gravy over a poached egg on toast. If I only had some breakfast sausage or milk in the house.

I’ve never tried it, and have no desire to do so. It looks like biscuits covered with a diarrhea milkshake.

This is why you guys will never be a World Power.

Yes! From the butt of an angel.

Bring it on!

I only have biscuits and gravy on the rare occasions when I eat at Cracker Barrel. It comes with the breakfast. The biscuits are generally pretty good but the gravy tends to be kind of flavorless but still, it’s biscuits and gravy! I don’t seek the stuff out or make it myself because it’s so carbo intensive. Eating it regularly would be a mistake. Nice occasional treat, though.

I have made it at home, and agree that it’s simple enough. However, I’m the only one in our house who’ll eat it and I’m not going to make just enough gravy for one serving, and anyway I’ve been trying for a while to make healthier food choices; low fat, whole grains and whatnot. But there’s a place near me that does the best breakfast for miles and miles and I do order it there. Mmmm.
