Bishop, Turnbull or Hockey?

Which minister will stab first?

I’d like to think it’d be Hockey, since I loathe him more than the other two.

It won’t be Julie. Are you kidding me? Bill Heffernan’s head would explode if yet another barren woman living in a de facto relationship took office.

You Aussies talk funny!

Y’all have a Minister of Hockey? Say what now?

And how come we don’t have one in Canada.?
(And now I’m thinking, why not? We pay lots of taxes, dammit we deserve one! Most assuredly more than the Aussies!)

Also it seems suspicious that though I live in the land that lives and breathes hockey, I’ve never met anyone actually named Hockey. You better have an explanation son!

What goes on here?

Hockey? You guys have barely cracked the top ten in decades (when you’ve even bothered to field a team), and since we started playing in the sixties we’ve barely been out of the top five and usually get a medal. Cite. I don’t know what the hell it is about you Canadians and your illusions about hockey, but you need to get real. Seriously.

Please, help yourself to ours! Really, don’t thank me.

Hockey is more of the same. I can’t see him challenging because he is too closely aligned with Abbott. Personally I think he is better than Abbott (then again, who isn’t?), but not enough to be happy for him to take over. Tarred with the same brush.

Bishop (if you can believe the press) was unimpressed at being asked to pledge loyalty to Abbott, so it would make sense for her to challenge. I would be happy for her to be PM.

Turnbull - my personal choice. Until recently (when the unspeakable bastards took over (thank you to the late Don Chipp for that expression) ) I have always been a Liberal voter, and Turnbull embodies what I like about the old Liberal party - economically conservative but with a social conscience. And of course he isn’t anti-science, which Abbott clearly is.

To answer the question in the OP, it’s difficult. Turnbull clearly would have no qualms because everyone knows he doesn’t like Abbott, while Bishop (if she has any sense, and I think she does) should only challenge if she has solid numbers behind her.

The other thing to consider is that whoever takes over may only be doing so for 18 months. The longer term view would be to let the Liberal party lose the next election and aim for the one after that. Bishop is young enough to pursue that strategy, but Turnbull probably isn’t.

If the challenge is next week (which seems likely) then I would tip Turnbull to do it. That will give him his day in the sun, but will allow Bishop to bide her time for a few years and have a real chance at being a long-term Prime Minister.

Of course behind the scenes it may be that Turnbull seems like a backward step, in which case the party may want Bishop to run. As much as I would like Turnbull to have a go, I understand that perhaps Bishop, having no history as a “failed” leader, may be seen as a better choice.

Andrew Robb will make it all happen.

Morrison?

(hell, I hope not)

Only one of them is an android, so there’s that…

Field “hockey” is merely soccer with sticks. You guys need to play REAL hockey.
