Bitter night

This happened at 02:32 AM, on Jan. 12th, the weather was -30C. A little story:

I had finished talking to my love a little while ago , and have been trying to ignore my pains to fall peacefully asleep.

Around 10 minutes ago, I heard a pitiful Miouuu Miouuu that wouldn’t be mistaken for anything but a tiny kitten, looking for its mom’s warmth in this cruel sub zero weather.

I saw it scampering away as stepped onto the snowy balcony. A month old orange little one.

I put on some boots, took whatever jacket I could find just to fight the cold a little, and stepped out to the knee high snow.
The little one scampered away…through the fence, to the other side of the street. So I decided to wait behind the tool shed (in my pjs under the thin jacket), where its little paw prints marked the white powder, in hopes of catching it upon its return.
Well, about 10 minutes later, with a runny nose, chilled spine and saddened spirit, I came back inside. I will not be able to surprise it, small as it is, it can easily escape my clumsy stumbling pursuit through the snow.

Now I’m even more saddened…since I can hear cars and trucks pass. It can easily be crushed under some vehicle’s wheels: the driver would mistake it for a snow-bump. But that’s the cruel reality… I just hope it found its mother, or a compassionate cat to keep it safe and warm…

The last thing I need to find its lifeless little body.

Oh, that makes me so sad…but bless you for trying, anyway…
