Watermelon. In the dead of winter.
I had to substitute flavored gum and candy.
Asparagus. Never liked it before then.
Aversion to smoked meats if I smelled them cooking.

With my first, it was coke from the fountain, and strawberry pop tarts.
With the second, I had Pica. My body told me I absolutely had to eat a whole bottle of Tums a day. I had an entire lifetime’s worth of calcium in nine months.
I forgot, it was carrots with my first too, I’d eat at least a pound bag a day.
With my first, I craved melon all the time, usually honeydew or canteloupe. Then one day, the melon cravings abruptly stopped and all the melon in the fridge went bad. I also craved avocados a lot.
So far this time, oranges are my fruit of choice. Have to have one every day, and they have to be the really big, navel orages.
Of course, this is making me sound a lot more healthy than I am. Trust me, there are many bowls of cereal and cups of ice cream being consumed, too.
With my daughter it was oranges, oranges, oranges and bitter lemon drink with quinine. She’s all grown up now but still can’t stand oranges or any kind of citrus fruit. With my son, it was deep fried dim sims and he doesn’t like these now either.
Has anyone else had the experience of the children now not liking those foods you had the cravings for?
Well, my middle daughter won’t eat anything from Taco Bell. But then again, she won’t eat anything from anywhere else, either! She is like, the world’s pickiest eater, and I don’t think it had anything to do with what I ate during pregnancy .
Actually, my daughter really likes both melon and avocado.
I also remembered that, while pregnant with her, I had the strongest cravings for Peanut Butter Captain Crunch cereal. I never gave into that craving, mainly becaue I was trying to up the intake of healthier stuff (to balance out the large quantities of Klondike bars I was eating), but if it comes up this time, I am just going to do it.
The work day couldn’t fly by fast enough so that I could run to the local Dairy Queen for…a peanutbutter milkshake. I bought a blender so that I could make them at home. My 18 year old son loves them to this day!
My friend’s mom had a craving for peanut buttered bananas. Ate em everyday, with almost every meal. My friend likes peanut butter and bananas a lot.
I rarely had any actual cravings, but at mealtimes I knew EXACTLY what I wanted when I sat down. You know how you go over a menu thinking, hmm, maybe this, or possibly that? I’d sit down in a restaurant and bellow “chimichanga!” or “fried tomatoes!” or “rye toast!” Grocery shopping was fun - I’d just whiz through the store. My only real craving came at 2:30 in the morning once, when I sat up in bed and turned to the WryGuy and said, “umm… strawberry crepes!” and he said, “You’ve got to be kidding” and I rolled over and went back to sleep.
Unfortunately, I was hyperemetic throughout my pregnancy, and kept almost nothing down. And the smells of dairy products and salt (yes, I could smell salt when I was preggers) would make me hurl instantly.
I didn’t have food issues, but thought everything stank. Me, food, the world. Everything smelled bad.
Regarding the smell issue, I recall that I constantly smelled brownies baking while I was pregnant. At first, I thought the people next door must bake a lot, but then I noticed I smelled it everywhere. Not an entirely unpleasant thing, I must say, when the whole world smells like brownies.
Oh, my. Time to alert the hubby about a new pregnancy craving…I don’t even know if there’s a DQ around here, though.
I really must stop reading this thread.
** Kind of in the same vein, the smell of cigarette smoke was fantastic when I was pregnant.**
Oh yeah, me too, and I’m not a smoker.
The smell of gasoline, too. I like that smell now, but when I was preggers I LOVED it.
(Which makes me wonder: wouldn’t it be against biology for a pregnant woman to suddenly like the smell of dangerous things?)
The hotter and spicier the better. And Barbeque sauce, couldn’t get enough of it. Every Wednesday went out to lunch with friends at the same restaurant and had to choose between a barbeque sandwich or Mexican food. They were amazed since in their experience pregnancy caused an aversion to these types of foods.
During my first pregnancy I think I bought Campbell’s Chicken and Rice soup by the case. I haven’t touched it since. With my second it was fresh fruit and honey nut corn flakes.
Pizza … ooie, gooie hot pizza loaded with all the meat and cheese it would support. Every day for lunch. My girlfriend, who was pregnant then also, would split an extra large with me. Daughter loves pizza btw! We also usually split a frozen Sara Lee cheesecake for dessert. We didn’t wait for it to thaw out - we ate it FROZEN
Same pregnancy as above and colgate toothpaste changed their formula. I gagged at the new stuff and couldn’t use toothpaste when I brushed my teeth for the remainder of that pregnancy.
The smell of pork cooking was guaranteed to send me dry heaving to the toilet.
I’ve had multiple miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies since the one above, and in each one I craved Clausens dill pickle spears. I would eat an entire jar a day! No other brand, no other variety would do.
Now, I’m on a new medication which leaves me craving carbs! Ack - 15 lbs in 15 days - ask me how I gained!
I am not now nor have I ever been pregnant, but I still get huge food cravings - something that causes fear in my SO! I can imagine wanting nachos (I LOVE nachos - I once went a week eating just that!) and steaks (I have been craving a Jack Astor’s steak for a few days now, but we are saving our money…). Poor him, I don’t know how he’ll tolerate me!
I believe my mother craved broccoli in all her pregnancies, and my aunt craved tomatoes (like Blanche in Les Filles de Caleb).
Another one for Taco Bell - Beef Burrito Supremes, to be exact. Also Dove Bars.
My wife went nuts for buffalo wings while pregnant. Not so much the “nuclear” ones, but the medium heat. I’d always thought that pregnant women hated spicy foods, but I guess not.
She didn’t really have any aversions, except every once in a while, something would “all of a sudden” gross her out. We’d be eating chicken something or other for dinner and she’d be almost done with it, then just suddenly she couldn’t eat another bite or she’d puke. Happened with other stuff too.
