For a non-snarky response to the issue of violence in Chicago (and elsewhere), I’ve read very good things about the organization “Cure Violence”, which looks at violent crime in cities as if it’s a transmittable disease, and uses similar strategies that epidemiologists use to fight it.
And results seem promising, with significant drops in shootings.
The subtext of your point is “Why should anyone give a fuck about cops killing blacks when more blacks are killed by other blacks?” Of course this makes no sense- we expect criminals to kill people, we should not expect police to do it.
No, my point is that black-on-black crime doesn’t help the race pimps get money or attention. Thus, :crickets:

I think your comments say much more about your views on race and black-on-black violence than they do about liberals’ views.
I think it’s more like people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are fully aware of how black criminals kill black citizens but are also aware that criminals are not affected by public outrage. When cops kill black citizens, that is a more productive use of outrage in that policy changes might be forced to reduce the carnage.

I can go on like that for a while. The truth is, your much maligned “race pimps” spend a lot of time talking about black-on-black crime. You don’t hear about it, because the media you consume only cares about black-on-black crime as a distraction from when people bring up police violence.
White guy shoots black guy - Sharpton leads protests in Ferguson and Crown Heights and various cities after the Zimmerman case. But that’s OK - he gave a speech against black-on-black crime in 2008. And your linkabout how black on black crime is ignored is saying the same thing I am.

Sharpton regularly speaks out about black-on-black crime, and regularly leads protest marches to raise attention about the issue. Jackson, too. This is a major part of their work as political advocates. I mean, you can still hate on him for all the other stuff he’s done: Crown Heights and Tawana Brawley. Heck, there’s enough dirt on him already, why do you need to go around inventing stuff to complain about?
Yes, that’s generally the point of the protests and consciousness raising done by people like Sharpton and Jackson: to get more media attention to the issues of violence in black communities. The fact that the media only pays attention to them when they talk about police violence against black people is not exactly their fault.
There are some loopholes to that, e.g. the Drug War exceptions, as used, I think, at Waco.
Yeah, I don’t think Sharpton is so much the problem as the media. White people are news, whether victim or perpetrator. Black people are not news unless they are famous. And if something’s in the news, then that gets people more riled up then something that isn’t in the news.
No marines were deployed at Waco. That was ATF and FBI agents, and the Texas Army National Guard. The National Guard can be deployed on domestic soil.
Shodan is NOT a liberal. Not by any definition. He would strongly object to being thought of as in any way ‘liberal’.
You misunderstand me. From what I’ve seen, there exists a perception (a false one, in the mind of this liberal) among many conservatives (and conservative media figures) that “liberals don’t care about the real violence”, (the “real violence” being black-on-black crime). So I was ‘congratulating’ Shodan for repeating this right-wing media meme/narrative, in a mocking fashion.
Give it time, we’ll convert him yet.
