As I mentioned above, I felt that three weeks worth of pirate chatter and arguing and votes and whatnot was at least one week too long. I don’t expect every episode to be action-packed blam pow but the only “piracy” to happen during those weeks was Rackham’s one score. During the week where Flint/Hornigold had the election for captaincy, they didn’t even show a ship.
I’m not opposed to plot and story and all that. I think that making one or two day’s worth of events on the islands stretch out over three weeks was a bit much for the show’s pacing to bear. Thankfully, this past week stepped it back up and the finale promises to be good.
I agree that the latest episode was really good. I think it makes what seemed like slow episodes better as tension builders. All the action doesn’t need to be spread evenly and I think it was fairly good writing that helped develop the character motivations.
That said, I’m not sure I buy that Vane would really come to Flint’s rescue to help keep Nassau strong, but it was close enough for me to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the show.
I like this show a lot. The last episode of season 2 was pretty good but I wonder if they might be approaching shark jumping territory now that the gold is recovered.
Well, at the glacial pace the show’s timeline moves they could stretch out Flint recovering the gold for another three seasons
Really though, I half suspect that it could neatly wrap up in Season Three. I also like the show but I’m not sure if it would play out well for a fourth season. Again, I just hope that the show is given enough notice to end it gracefully and not like the frantic rush of Rome’s final season.
I noticed in the S3 previews that Flint has shaved his head (well cut his hair very close). No more pirate ponytail.
I think the beauty of it for the writers is that they can easily wrap it up on short notice. They may even have the last few episodes at least sketched out just in case. All they really have to do is have Flint get the gold.
Ideally, they would probably also depict Flint hiding it on Treasure Island, possibly Flint giving his map to Billy Bones prior to dying, and for a flourish have Silver retiring to work in Bristol as a tavern-keeper. I assume Sliver’s parrot would get introduced right at the end, too.
Since the book Treasure Island is in the public domain, they could actually have the show continue to tell the story if it was a really successful show, but given how much it probably costs to produce I don’t think it will last nearly long enough.
