I saw a black one as I was pulling into the driveway after work this afternoon. They’re cool. I’ve seen plenty of black squirrels in town (Portage, Wisconsin) since I moved to this area 20 years ago but this summer is the first time I’ve seen them in my rural neighborhood. There’s a river between here and town and I’ve been wondering if they just used the bridge like the rest of us do or if they got over here by some other means.
Ahh the Ninja Squirrel, first time i saw them was in Vancouver BC, I swear the little buggers were doing cartwheels in the park.
The black squirrels? Don’t touch them! Don’t go near them! They are EVIL! They OWN my campus, and most of Ontario besides (ever seen them all over capital hill?!?)
They are all over the bloody place, and are definitely considered a nuisance, almost as much as racoons!
Evil, evil little buggers…
Seems like the only squirrels in Taiwan are all black… I’ve never seen any other colors around here.
Pretty much all the squirrels here in Ottawa, Ontario are black. (The black ones seem a bit runtier than the gray ones I was used to back in the US.)
We got 'em in Northeast OH too. Silly little things. When I was a youngster, my mother was having a hard time getting me to give up my pacifier. So one night my grandma hid it in a drawer (where it stayed, I happened upon it 15 years later) and the next morning she told me a black squirrel took it. Mom never bought me a new one either. I cried and cried and I still sorta view them as evil greedy varmints. But they are entertaining to watch, very lively.
The brown squirrels around here on the other hand get as big as cats, and they’re FAT too. Ever see a fat squirrel try to scramble up a tree? Hilarious.
