Black/White Race Wars

It’s a mistake to think that racism in America is anything special. Black vs white in America is a sideshow, numerically. You’ve got Europeans vs Asians (which goes all the way back to the Mongols), Japanese vs other Asians, Blacks vs Blacks, Tamils vs N. Indians, Middle Kingdom Complex, and so on. And let’s not forget Israeli vs Arab.

I dare say that the various native American tribes discriminate against each other too.

I’m confident that it will all be overcome in time: I see prosperity, peace, and education as the prime factors. But it will take a long time.

Racism in America has a history that is uniquely American, that has played a large role in forming this country, and the existence of the USA cannot be separated from the racism that in part forms its historical foundation. For historical reasons explained in post 5, the racial situation in Latin America is completely different from that of Anglo-America. A type of anti-black racism has surfaced in one part of Latin America, for a counter-example, the Peruvian mother of George Zimmerman the killer of Trayvon Martin is reported to have brought anti-black racism from her homeland.

I’m reminded of how that is the environment in which black Peruvian singer Susana Baca did this awesome feminist anti-racist song, “Negra Presuntuosa,” which I would translate as ‘Uppity Black Woman’.

True but race is as much sociological as biological, if a race war did happen it would be along the lines of what people considered themselves and others not what their genes said they were. Brazil has been multiculturally reproducing for 400 years and they still have race and and are still grappling with race politically. I don’t think races will disappear through intermarriage in the foreseeable future but the salience of race is small now and getting smaller all the time.

So, it’s nothing like the racism of Egyptians vs Israelites, or higher castes vs ‘Untouchables’ in India, or Japanese vs Ainu, or Japanese vs Chinese or Korean, or… ?

Mind the excluded middle: “unique” ≠ “nothing alike.”
