Does anyone here have experience or recommendations for using blacklights to find cat urine?
I’ve done it.
It requires a strong UV source - I used my rockhunting light. It also requires a pitch-black room. The cat urine fluoresces a very dim yellow. It can be very hard to see, especially if there is a lot of other objects that also fluoresce (like dust, or certain carpets).
It will be easier to find cat urine by looking in the litter box. A vet might even have some samples left over. What do you plan to do with the cat urine when you find it?
I have successfully done it as well. I used an 18 inch fluorescent tube black light. It has to be really dark, and at least that light had to be really close to the floor. It is useful for when you can smell the urine, and want to know what to scrub.
I bought a urine remover set on Amazon, which consisted of a little blacklight and a spray. The spray is supposed to break down urine stains.
If it is really dark, the light does show urine stains. It also shows water stains that contain calcium. The tiny white film of chalk that water spots left behind also lights up. Also chalky grout lines.
I thought the combined set worked well. Besides having a little blacklight in the house is cool for science experiments.
