Have you ever watched a movie or TV show and heard something said, or seen something done, that’s exactly the same as what somebody else said or did on another show/special/movie?
I’ll give an example. Recently D.L. Hughley (sp?) was in town giving a stand-up performance, and I went with a couple of my friends. It was a fun show, but at least 10% of the jokes were classic Richard Pryor gags.
I had another example, but for the life of me, I can’t remember it.
So, have any of you noticed any rip-offs yourself? And if so, what were they?
I don’t think the message character limit on this board, will allow me to comprehensively enumerate all of the rip-offs in Bollywood.
I’ve noticed that in stand-up comedy, too. I can’t think of any examples off the top of my head, but I’ve recalled a sense of deja vu.
I watched most of the 100 Greatest Comedians of All Time thing on Comedy Central last week, and the commentators, er, commented, that stealing other peoples’ acts happens all the time. New comics, especially, will borrow more well-known material. Just like new bands play covers and then work up to original stuff.
Hughley’s pretty well established, though, kind of sad that he’s doing it.
