Bleaching Plastic

Hi,
I know about Sodium Percarbonate and Polishing compounds that can reinvigorate yellowing transparent lens on headlights and such. I just wanted to make sure that using Chlorine Bleach in some diluted form was completely out of the question as far as whitening my headlights back to the OEM majesty they once were.

As I understand it Chlorine Bleach weakens the material of just about anything is touchs, but hey it’s not like I’m going to have my headlights (or CAR for that matter “forever”) I don’t want to sound cheap, but I also don’t want to over-complicate the situation any more than I have to if the jug of bleach holding my laundry room door open is going to work about the same as something special just for the headlights.

While I’m asking, Transparent plastic used in headlights yellows or “fogs” over time due to constant UV exposure and eventually if unattended penetrates the plastic fully…

my part 2 question is: Can a fully yellowed lens be reverted to it’s original glory once it has undergone such damage?

Meguiars sells a plastic polish and cleaner that has worked really well for me in taking care of the problem you describe, makes the lens look like new again, you can buy it at auto parts places like Pep Boys and Auto Zone.
I really suspect that bleach would do much more damage than good on plastic…
