Blinky lights on freezers

I have 2 freezers. both have little red lights on them (on the bottom of an upright one, on the top of a flat one). threse lights occasionally blink for a few minutes, seemingly randomly, then stop. what and why?

Just a wag, but could it be the condenser kicking in? A fan? Not sure why you would need a light to show you those things. Perhaps it shows when the temperature drops below the thermostat setting, that way, if it stayed on long enough, you could tell that your frozen goods were in peril.

'Smatter, doncha read the Weekly World News? That’s the FBI video surveillance cameras. Pretend like you don’t know they’re there, or else they’ll move them.

Too many possibilities. You need to get the make, model, and serial # and then email the manufacturer to get a good answer.

Many chest freezers have defrost indicator lights, which tell you when the auto defrost kicks in. This means the interior coils are getting defrosted, and the resulting water is being removed from inside by dripping down into the pan.

Some older units have temperature indicator lights, which turn on when the interior temperature exceeds a certain point. This tells you when the freezer isn’t cutting it, so you can tell at a glance that your food is spoiling, so you can run to the store and get ice to save it. This light will come on after someone opens the unit and takes their time looking around. It also tell you if someone left it open, or if the door seals are going, or if the unit is having some sort of mechanical failure. If it loses power though, the light goes out, so some units have the reverse, which is a light that is normally on, but goes off when the temp is high.

Some just have power indicator lights that tell you when the unit is plugged in and recieving power (just to light the light for a good 3000-5000 hours per year.)

I haven’t heard of any that have compressor on light, but it makes sense that it could be that. You should be able to tell, though, from the noise or vibrations.
