I saw the Subject line and immediately thought,
Bliss is…
…a really great movie from Australia, based on the book (and screenplay written) by the award-winning author Peter Carey (Oscar and Lucinda, co-writer of Wim Wenders’ Until the End of the World), and directed by Ray Lawrence (Lantana, Jindabyne), and starring Barry Otto, Lynette Curran, Helen Jones (as the wonderful “Honey Barbara”) and Gia Carides. If Terry Gilliam’s Brazil hadn’t been released in 1985, this would have been my favorite film of that year. As it is, it had to take 2nd place. I love it so much I have a poster for it in my kitchen.
