If Americans stop paying attention to the news, that certainly will benefit somebody. It won’t benefit Americans. But it will benefit somebody else.
Hitler?
This deserves an indictment. However, the paperwork has been lost.
I’m really pleased it cheered you up, HurricaneDitka. And of course the entire credit goes to all the great responses rather than my OP. Get well soon!
Or Facebook, or AV Club, or Cracked…
Everyone hates Donald Trump except the American people.
God bless the USA.
Yeah, the number of US presidents more universally beloved and admired than Donald Trump has to be in the low 40s.
Maybe I’m in a bubble, but although a lot of people voted for him, I don’t get the impression many people like him, respect him, or trust him.
That’s, from my perspective, an accurate observation. I voted for him, but I wouldn’t say I “like”, “respect” or “trust” him.
Is it just me or would that option not have distinctive, even emblematic potential?
Oh, yes and get his inauguration address boiled down to a tweet.
It would be a bit uncomfortable for Chief Justice Roberts when Trump starts fondling the cover.
Or a jack-acid test… ![]()
And if you don’t like, respect, or trust Donald Trump, then what of all the people who didn’t even vote for him?
Maybe they can have an MP3 player, placed behind a life-size cardboard cutout of Antonin Scalia, administer the oath of office, since the Republicans have successfully prevented his being replaced by anyone less conservative.
Because clearly, when I don’t like, trust, or respect someone, what I want most of all is for them to have a lot more power over me and my family than they already did. ![]()
:smack:
I enjoy the AVclub; it’s remarkable how many of Trump’s antics end up being discussed there. With sarcasm, mockery & surprising intelligence. (Well, there are one or two pro-Trump trolls.)
I go to more serious sources for serious news–now is not the time to retreat from reality. But watching him or his minions on TV does no good for my nerves. Netflix & Amazon Prime offer welcome distraction.
I know you love American Exceptionalism, but there’s no exception for us this time.
The key phrase is “I voted for him”. That means the problem is partly of your making. Own it.
You don’t get to deplore him; you only get to *apologize *for your actions in saddling us with him, and work to limit the damage you have helped cause. Okay?
He’s not gloating that he won, he’s gloating that we lost.
