Blood blister heal time?

So I rather foolishly went and got myself a blood blister on the outside tip of my pinky when I was a little careless in closing the retractable handle on a suitcase and got my finger pinched. In doing a little bit of research on the web it seems like the consensus advice on a blood blister is to just leave it alone and that it will heal on it’s own.

That’s all well and good, but I’m wondering exactly how long it takes? The blister itself about 3/16ths of an inch long and 1/16th of an inch wide and it’s been there since last Monday, so about a week and a half. It doesn’t appear to be getting any smaller or lighter, and there is no raised skin on the area or pain when I touch it.

Should I just continue to let it sit in the hopes that it will go away, or maybe try to pop it with a sterilized needle or something?

I gave myself a blood blister 9 days ago, and the discolored part only peeled off yesterday without pain. Had I not peeled it off, I’m sure it could have been there for several more days. I do still have some marks from where they were, but not the dark purple marks.

I would lance it if there’s pain from the pressure, but it isn’t necessary. In fact, you might better off leaving it intact to discourage infection. After a couple of days, it should no longer be filled with liquid; the blister and blood inside will harden and be more like a scab.

Ha, I just gave myself one on my palm last weekend. Just leave it alone - yours will probably be gone by next week.

Within a week. Whether you pop it or not.

I’ve had one on my index finger for almost two weeks now. (I pinched it while trying to snap a lid onto a plastic food container.) It looks like it’s starting to scab up now so it should be gone soon, but yeah I was starting to wonder if it was ever going to go away!

Thanks for the advice guys. Still sounds like my best bet is to just let it be, but I can’t help but be annoyed every time I look at my hand and see that ugly black mark there.

I was wondering if it would scab up on its own because the skin over top of it isn’t raised at all and there’s no pain, but I’ll just go ahead and wait.
