Blood Drive -- Third Annual!

I got a letter from the National Blood Service (UK) saying that they have enough of my blood type. Thanks, but no thanks! I’m AB positive which is fairly rare, so they must have already got enough!

I donated on Jan. 18 at the relatively new Rockville center. Got my second t-shirt, too! Very nice place. I highly recommend it.

I plan to donate platelets as soon as I’m eligible again (I posted a thread asking about it), which’ll be sometime in early March.

I went in today and did it. It wasn’t bad at all- I highly recommend it.

I had no problems, and got a sticker, a pin, and free snacks. Plus I may have helped someone. Can’t beat that.

ultrafilter and I donated tonight. The Fairfax Donor Center still seems shiney and new, and the folks who work there are so darn cheerful.

I picked up lots of loot: a mug and packet of cocoa, a tee shirt that says “Are You My Type” and two bags of cookies (I always get my cookies “to go”).

Last week! If you have been putting it off, now’s the time! I’m so proud of everyone who has donated. I hope that doesn’t come across sounding patronizing (matronizing?) because I don’t mean it that way at all… I just really admire people who donate blood and I gotta say GO YOU! YOU RULE!

I hope you will contact Canadian Blood Services to clear up your misconceptions. The rules are the same. I know, I donated regularly while I still lived in Canada, and continue since moving to the US.

Just a few more days for the blood drive! Come on, it only takes an little piece of your day, and you get free cookies! Plus right now the blood supply is so low, you may get extra goodies like free t-shirts and so on. Plus you know that you’ve saved lives.

Pleeeeease donate. And sign up to be an organ donor, if you haven’t done that. And don’t forget to vote in your primaries! And always buckle up!!

Thanks for reminding me, Miss Opal. I need to call the downtown center and find out about the platelet donation!

They won’t take my blood because I’m gay. It doesn’t matter if I’m free from disease or infection, all gay men are banned.

I am an organ donor. They don’t seem to care about sexuality.

I’m in Australia, voting is compulsary, as is the wearing of seat belts.

This really is a little off-topic, but I don’t think it needs its own thread.

I made my appointment today for platelet donation. I’ll be donating a lot sooner than I thought - next Tuesday (Feb. 17) at 4:30 pm, in downtown D.C.

Some of you have done this before and commented in my other thread, and I appreciate the sage words. This is my first time donating platelets.

With any luck, they’ll have a movie for me that I haven’t seen!

When the SD drive comes around again next year, I’ll try to time it so I can help out.

Well, hell. I ate half a damn cow to get my iron up over the last three weeks, and come to find out the 4 years I spent in Germany disqualifies me. Would have been nice to know before the three as it turns out totally gratuitous finger sticks.

I gave yesterday at the school’s blood drive. My second time ever. I guess it can count for this, too.
