My wife has tested positive for Gestational Diabetes so she is trying to control it with diet. She has to take readings about 4 times a day.
One thing we have noticed is that she always tests way higher when she is hot (working in a hot office or spending the day outdoors). Note that the glucose tests themselves were peformed in this hotter environment.
Several websites say stuff like “high temperatures may affect the test readings,” but being helpful as they are, they don’t say if that means the readings will be artifically high or low or why.
My theory is that when she is in a cooler environment, her body uses more sugar to maintain her body temperature. If she is hot for an extended period of time, he body does not use as many sugars to maintain her body temperature and therefore she gets higher readings.
Don’t worry, she will mention it to her Dr. during her next appointment, but I am interested in seing what the SD has to say.
Any thoughts? Has anyone else experienced this?
