[anecdote]I was unexpectedly hospitalized for a couple weeks in January. The hospital had wireless access, but the SDMB was blocked. I was pretty desperate to post and read, but no go–even requesting review through their link didn’t work.
About the last day I noticed my bookmarks all still pointed to boardstest–I had never changed them back after the re-switch. I adjusted accordingly and I got through. What a miserable time
I know my company uses a workplace filter, but I’m not sure which one. However whatever filter they use (obviously an intelligent one!), it does not block the SDMB.
SA is mostly (I say mostly) just pointless sophomoric dick waving.
SDMB is a veritable university. Lessons in life, art, geopolitics, critical thinking, etc. every time you sign on.
If you were a censor interested in Protecting Our Nation’s Youth, which one would you not want kinds to see?
On Monday I noticed the dopes front page was accessible from work, however the message board was blocked as adult / mature etc
I guess they have classified the main dope page differently to the message board side.
'prolly a good thing for productivity, I was just getting into a full on game of MC and contemplatuing rejoining the Mafia games.
This is why I don’t think it was caused by anything in any of the posts. Web forums around the Internet consistently use far more profanity, have scantily-clad avatars, and talk about even grosser topics than we do (if you can imagine) and are still classified as Forums, not Adult. I think it has to be one of the link redirect scripts or the ads that auto-triggered the reclassification, which is why I was hoping there was an appeals process for webmasters to get an actual human to look at the site. No sign that there is, though, which is a bummer for those of us stuck behind BlueCoat.
So, how’s this going? Any new news? Because if people use the boardstest URL, it’s only a matter of time before it gets blocked, too, as the content is the same.
I’m sure others already found it, but there is a lot of contact information here. If they don’t have something set up to handle this, you just have to go generic. If they are any good at all, sending an email to the wrong person will get you a message telling you who to actually contact.
Ya know, maybe if you guys stopped mentioning the goat at every newcomer that finds there way here, we might be considered respectable. Looks like Ed did some good work with his smooth talking though. Probably just gave them a personal introduction to the goat to show he’s not all bad.
