Board Games, revisited

Yes, but the German Postal system is such an overused theme

There is some competition - racing to finish a region (or using the Administrator to eliminate a card the next player wants…). Not the most exciting game, but pleasant enough.

Recently won a game on yucata.de - on my last move I finished blue, green and grey and got rid of all my post offices (13 points total)

We added Forbidden Island to the lineup for yesterday’s snow day.

Like you say, basically a cooperative game: all the players win, or lose, together. We’re all explorers trying to retrieve four treasures from an island – but the island is slowly sinking into the sea. Each player gets one specific skill – so the “Pilot,” for example, can fly anywhere on the island once during his turn; the “Diver” can traverse a section of the island even after it’s already flooded. Very fun, and kind of nice to play a game where we’re all on the same side against the game.

So I played 7 Wonders for the first time last week and I have to say I really enjoyed it.

What I like most about the game is the way every turn happens simultaneously, reducing the overall impact of AP. What I dislike is the way interaction between players is either limited (the players to either side of you) or extremely limited (everyone else).

I’m probably going to pick it up along with some of the expansions at some point, but we’re talking about a good chunk of change so it’ll have to wait.

So… Is anybody celebrating International Tabletop Day today?
