Keep in mind the phrase “middle class”, itself–in terms of who belongs to it–is highly debatable; the owner of a highly successful small business who clears 200K after paying all expenses including employees’ wages and benefits, and the lobby receptionist who works there may both consider themselves middle class. Just saying.

ITA that “middle-class” is VERY nebulous. My personal definition: “To rich for welfare, too poor to not work 9-5.”

I think some of the upper-crust boarding schools (both in the US and the UK) attract international students, so the per capita count is less relevant.

Some of the not-so-upper-crust ones too. I know someone who teaches at a Catholic boarding school in CT who tells me that the boarding students are primarily international students.

Are most boarding schools in the US and elsewhere only boarding? This school and others I know are ~50/50 boarding/day.

That is insanely expensive.

Yep - not cheap, and that doesn’t even include spending money and other incidentals. You should see the clothes they buy…
But as mentioned, the kids who go there come from rather wealthy families.
