Real should be replaced by Old fashioned.
But not that old fashioned, I doubt Bob wants a car with a transmission.
ISWYDT.
Nice.
Not relevant to this thread, but your complaint here is that you have chosen to embrace an absurd falsehood, and you are pissed off at me because I do not embrace this falsehood.
“Truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth.”—Todd Wagner.
Somehow I’ve avoided Bob till the EV thread. Looks like my luck has expired.
Bob? We don’t define what a car is by looking under the hood.
That you insist on it is the absurd falsehood.
And yes, I’m not talking about cars.
Again, you think your uninformed, bigoted, shitty opinion is fact
You’re entitled to your own uniformed, bigoted, shitty opinions. Don’t try to pass them off as facts.
The word “real” does not mean “whatever I say, and must not be questioned”
You’re not used to having your words or opinions questioned are you? You seem to get very triggered when people disagree with your uninformed, bigoted, shitty opinions.
It’s deliberate provocation. It expresses some irrational distain for EVs. Yet all he is actually saying is that EVs don’t meet his current needs, which many others here have said about their own situations, without being a dick about it. His “not a real car” thing is just to piss people off. There might have a word for that here.
What’s the sound of one pinniped typing?

Hey you got it right for once! Congrats!
I mentioned elsewhere that Bob was filling a Sam_Stone shaped hole in the EV thread, but it really is like talking to the same person, minus the Canada stuff.
A bigot quotes a megachurch pastor. lol
I hate to defend Sam, but these two are very different. Sam is a frustrating liar who sometimes goes a little too deep into right-wing rabbit holes, but he’s intelligent and doesn’t exude hatred and bigotry.
Sam can be an impediment to good discussion and debate, but Bob does active harm to people on this board. He is unbelievably ignorant and is proud of his idiocy. There might be posters that have bothered me more for certain reasons, but I have trouble thinking of many that were bigger assholes.
Anyway, there’s a separate thread for Sam if people want to complain about him. Let’s stick to Bob here.
Curiosity question: Does it have an auxiliary ICE for pumping water? I could see that being a problem with an all-electric fire engine.
Somewhat change of subject: Valley Metro has added a trolley car in Tempe – paid for by the city I think – to supplant the light rail which doesn’t serve the downtown there well. Being slow speed it has your typical trolley wire simple suspension instead of the fancy catenary the light rail does plus in the two spots where it crosses the LR the pantograph is lowered and it trundles a few hundred feet on battery power.
Googling, the new fire truck in Mesa, Arizona “can pump four hose lines at 750 gallons per minute for four hours on a single charge” and can be recharged in 3 1/2 hours at the firehouse.
Googling further, that fire truck is available with an optional range extender ICE.
This tired old claim again. I’m not directing it particularly at you @Mr.E , because it is a very common thing I hear: “I have to drive 200 miles daily, so an EV won’t work.”
No, you have to a drive 200 miles, so an EV will be perfect. Even with inflated range estimates, there are many EVs that can easily travel 200 miles round trip per day without recharging. Even in the winter.
If there is any way at all to make an EV work for such a long daily commute, it will be a big win. At 30MPG and $3/gallon 200 miles is $20 per day in gas. For my EV and home charging cost it is about $6. People can do their own gas calculation for their vehicle of choice.
Obvious requirements are no trailer, no pickup sized payloads, and ability to charge 200 miles per night.
Because it is the pit: Holy shit, people, it’s not 2011 anymore, there are lots of EVs with lots of capabilities that fill lots of needs. No whining about EV prices either, the average new car price is $48k, with lots of EVs. Yes, yes, lots of talk of “an EV won’t work for me.” Have you evaluated that claim recently, with accurate information?
Enough about cars. What is y’all’s opinions on sea mammals? Are sea lions better or worse than seals?
Our Tesla MY dual motor cost $43K out the door and that includes all licensing and tax.
But can it haul 2000 pounds of hay 400 miles over a mountain pass in -30 weather? Because that’s my daily commute.
You actually get better mileage than a typical ICE vehicle because the engine is a hybrid engine, which is more efficient, and you also get to use regenerative braking. I did a test with mine and went without charging between refills to see what I would get and it was much better than what I would have gotten with the comparable ICE vehicle. After that test of course I went back to doing as much charging as possible.
