ISTM that the opinion that you expressed was that vehicles that do not rely on directly burning fossil fuels cannot legitimately be characterized as “real cars.” As for the characterization of that opinion, “perfectly valid” is not among the first three that spring to mind.
ETA: I suppose “ridiculed” can, if one squints just right, be classified as a form of “attacked,” but for “punished,” Imma have to ask you to elaborate. TIA.
I don’t understand your angst. Basically, you are telling us how awful it would be while, at the same time, you don’t own one and you aren’t suffering at all. It’s a: “This is how mad I would be if I was forced to own and drive an EV but I’m not so I don’t” pitting.
Almost all of us plug in at home. The gas tank is always full in the morning. If you can’t plug in at home (like Bob to be fair) then it doesn’t make sense for you. Nearly all major highways in the US have lots of superchargers along the way, especially in California (where Bob lives).
No one has to like EVs but there’s no reason to be a dick about it. There’s even less call to be a transphobic piece of trash incidentally.
Not on EVs, but on two other topics on this forum, I have been suspended for stating clear facts and expressing legitimate opinions, and have been forbidden from discussing those topics on this forum.&bsp; That is not the behavior of anyone who thinks his own positions can stand on their own; that is the behavior of dishonest cowards who know that their position is so weak that they can only “win” by cheating.
“ICE” (the commonly-used abbreviation for Internal Combustion Engine) = 3 characters.
YMMV (pun intended), but my hypothetical (but non-existent) bigotry against EVs is far surpassed by my profound laziness. That five-character savings … that’ll really add up fast.
Nothing personal, but I don’t think highly enough of you to take the initiative to search your posting history to contextualize those assertions. I’d appreciate if you could direct my attention to the punishments you’re claiming.
A lot of the places I’ve gone in the past few years weren’t so built-out yet in terms of chargers, so it would have added a fair amount of going out of the way and waiting on a charge.
I agree that it’s coming, but it’s not quite here yet. And it’s a reasonable thing for some people to say that it’s not here yet to the degree they’ll need to make it work for them.
I mean, a 400 mile range EV with a 15 minute charge time, and chargers as geographically distributed everywhere in the country like gas stations are now, and there’s no compelling reason NOT to have an EV, unless maybe you’re law enforcement or in some other line of work that might need to operate for an extended time without electricity.
Wait, your complaining about getting attacked isn’t about this thread? Glad, because I haven’t seen it here. Mainly people complaining about your lame “real car” label.
Again, that was my mentality till I started digging into it and also, changed how I thought about how we travel. For now, we’ve kept our old Subaru (you know, “real car”), but we haven’t needed it yet. We are looking into our 3 month backpacking season and where we will be going: I know at least one trip can be done in our EV (Cabinet mountains), and I think another in the Sawtooths can be done with destination charging, but, that might also be the Subaru. We also might do some camping near the Frank Church and that would probably be the Subaru. Once charging stations show up along Highway 12 and down 95, we can safely sell the Subaru.
I’m glad we got the EV. We also have the luxury of being able to be a 2 car household for now (we were a 1 car household for over a decade). Of course, it seems to me that everyone I know has at least one vehicle per adult in the house so maybe we are now the usual.
Our next car will likely be an EV, but that will probably be a few years from now. I drive very little now compared to when I was working. I fill up monthly on average. So my 2015 RAV4 should stay with me for quite awhile.
My daughter has my old Prius which I put a lot of miles on quickly at first and then my commute got much better and I dropped from 20k per year to 7k per year. (I’m now down to maybe 3k).
That Prius is still doing well and has greatly exceeded all the naysayers about battery life. It is a 2010.
My wife’s car will be the one replaced soonest, hers will probably go to my son.
When we buy that first EV, I’ll probably get things setup for charging 2 cars. We have a 2 car garage.
I think Bob has a fair complaint about EVs won’t work well for him while he is still working. He expressed it terribly and in a way that caused a thorough hijack. He should have just started a new thread. The “Real Car” stuff is pretty close to minor trolling. His posts I brought over read more like ranting and so I put his rants over here in the Rant Place. I mean the Pit.
I’m glad he backed off of this move being censorship, has that was ridiculous on 2-3 levels.
I personally could not have less of a dog in this fight, as I have never owned a car of any kind and have no current plans to acquire a car of any kind. When I do occasionally have to drive a rented or borrowed car, I drive whatever’s available and don’t care what kind it is.
That said, I have no hesitation about joining the consensus that Bob_Blaylock is being an annoying dick, solely on the basis of his asinine and childish insistence on calling ICE cars “real cars” to distinguish them from EVs.
Dude, when you can’t even manage to express your “legitimate opinion” without throwing in gratuitous insults, you have automatically outed yourself as a dick.
It’s the behavior of people who are tired of playing chess with pigeons. You can spend hours on the rules and strategy, but they’ll still knock over the pieces, shit on the board, and strut around like they won.
Better to shoo the tiny brained creatures away and play with someone who can comprehend the game.
BTW, you’re the bigoted, ignorant pigeon in this analogy.
