Bob Dylan and Sesame Street

Okay, here’s the story. A friend of mine told me that Bob Dylan wrote the theme song to Sesame Street. (You know–“Sunny days, sweeping the clouds away. . .”)

I suspect this is some kind of UL, but he showed me a scene in the documentary “Don’t Look Back” where Bob does seem to play the opening chords from the song. I haven’t been able to dig up any information on who wrote the song, one way or the other. Anybody here know?

No, not Bob Dylan.

I need to learn the proper way to do that.

[singing raspily] Oscar’s in the trashcan
mixin’ up the medicine,
I’m on the pavement
talkin to a Big Bird…[/singing raspily]

Thank you, ChiefScott for that musical interlude!

Also, my father had the song on his old vinyl collection which I played over and over again as a child, much to his consternation.

Yer pal,
Satan

TIME ELAPSED SINCE I QUIT SMOKING:
One month, one week, two days, 5 hours, 24 minutes and 35 seconds.
1569 cigarettes not smoked, saving $196.13.
Life saved: 5 days, 10 hours, 45 minutes.

“Lay Ernie, lay.
Lay across my big brass bed…”

“This episode has been brought to you by the numbers 12 & 35. Everybody must get stoned!”

Don’t know about the OP, but Jerry Garcia wrote and performed the “Twilight Zone” theme.

Huh? The theme to the “Twilight Zone” series was written by Marius Constant. The series first came on the air when Jerry Garcia was 17 years old.

I guess I better double-check my source on this one. Be back later.

The Grateful Dead (with Merl Saunders) did the music for the 1985-86 CBS series “The Twilight Zone” , a reprise of the original. Guess I better read with more care.

No, Bob Dylan didn’t write the Sesame Street theme- but he HAS appeared on some kiddie-oriented records!

About 10 years ago, he did a hilariously bad rendition of “This Old Man” (you know, the one who plays knick-knack on his shoe?) on some kind of charity CD.

Yeah, that was on a Disney album, as I recall. Some of his kiddie work isn’t that bad, though.

Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, in the beginning
Man gave names to all the animals
In the beginning, long time ago

The answer to the OP is that SS’s theme was written by Joe Raposo, who AFAIK, wrote a lot of songs associated with shows made by the Children’s Television Workshop.

That info is mentioned in the site mangeorge gave.

So do we hold him responsible for:

“C’mon and Zooma, Zooma, Zooma, Zoom.
C’mon and Zooma, Zooma, Zooma, Zoom.
Come on give it a try,
We’re gonna teach you to fly – high!
C’mon and Zoom,
C’mon and Zoom Zoom…”

To make it clear, according to the site provided by mangeorge,

I wanna know who inflicted Duck, Rubber Duck on us… NOT Rubber Ducky, the other song.

Don’t know DS, but I wanna shoot Rick Dees for Disco Duck.
