Got a little carried away in my headphone bliss…I was 10 when Legend was released, but I’d been listening to the songs on the album since the womb…so do I get by on a technicality?
Yeah, you get by on a technicality. No problem.
I have to admit that Legend is required spring patio listening music. That and The English Beat. And a G&T. Spring is coming.
For many people, “Legend” is the only Marley they know. I’m not assuming this is the case of those posting (I’m still trying to figure out the “listening to the songs on the album since the womb” part), but just in case it is, I would highly recommend the Wailers’ albums, especially “Burnin’”, “Catch a Fire” (both with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer) and “Natty Dread”.
While the songs on “Legend” are great, there are many songs off of the Wailers albums not on “Legend” that could replace the songs on it as among Marley’s best.
On a note related to the OP, I find that Husker Du’s albums have a definite fall/winter feeling to them. I hadn’t thought about Marley in a seasonal context, so I’ll pop in one of his albums and get back to you on that
I meant that while the compilation album wasn’t released till 1984, the songs from the earlier albums (that were selected for Legend) had been part of my audio environment since birth. I’m just attempting at dig my way out of a hastily written OP…:smack:
I also agree that Legend is not the cream of the Marley crop that many assume it to be…but I rather like the fact that it has such universal appeal. It’s like Mom, and apple pie, and McDonalds…but really really not
Legend is the only Bob Marley record I own, but I know more songs by Marley that I like. I have Legend because it has most of my favorite tunes together in a single record, with the exception of Exodus. I don’t like that song, so I always fast forward it.
