Wow.
My favorite thug Red Wing of old.
Very sad news. He was the gold standard for enforcers when I was young; almost every fighter from the late 80s/early 90s has said that their toughest fights were against Probert. He could play some legitimately good hockey too; 29 goals in 87-88 and 20 in 1991-92.
He was probably the second most popular Red Wing of that era after Yzerman. It’s a shame he wasn’t around for the end of the Cup drought.
RIP Probie.
Apparent heart attack. As much as I hated Probert, I respected him.
RIP Bob.
45 years old. what a shame.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
So do you think he’s pulling St. Peter’s jersey over his head right now, or Satan’s?
Is that what is being reported? I do remember the drug problems from when he crossed the border with it. Still a problem?
Sha-Tans.
I don’t know if it was still a problem, but it was a problem for long enough that I could see it wearing out his heart.
That and plenty of booze and brawling.
A sad day.
Probert was a great thug, and he had some epic battles with Tie Domi. 45 is a pretty early age to go via heart attack, especially for a professional athlete. I hadn’t heard he was still doing cocaine.
I’m not a big fan of thuggery, but since the NHL still has it, you might as well have one of the best.
He probably gave St. Peter a hip check as he passed through those pearly gates.
He was reportedly clean from drugs and alcohol for years, but yes, like you say, that sort of stuff is cumulative in your system. Still, he was a pro athlete, I wouldn’t be shocked if he didn’t have some sort of defect.
