Bobby Fischer, still crazy, still brilliant at Chess

Bobby Fischer has been living reclusively in Iceland since his last debacle in Japan where Iceland bailed him out (literally.) Iceland also had a 2 hour live broadcast of a match between two GrandMasters. During post game the analyst received a call from Fischer where he outlined a beautiful victory which had been overlooked. He may be nucking futs, but he is still brilliant.

Now discuss!

“Rook takes G2, check. I hate Jews.”

That totally made my morning.

It was a good spot by Fischer, but it’s not enough to show he’s back to his best.
His last match against Spassky (in 1992) showed this too:

A fine result, but Fischer wouldn’t quite cope with the top (younger) players now.

He had some good ideas for chess (Fischer chess clock, decent playing conditions for tournaments), but was unfortunately obsessed by winning the World Championship. Once he’d done that, he didn’t know what to do next (and had always been wary of other people in his personal life.)

Sad.
