Bobcat Goldthwait

Does anyone know of any movie or tv show in which Bobcat Goldthwait, talks as a normal person?

Everytime I see him in anything he always uses the squawky “Police Academy” voice. I know that is his “trademark,” but I think that got REAL old somewhere around like 1986. AFAIK he’s still doing “the voice.”

I cannot think of a movie where he didn’t do the voice. That’s his thing though. I for one find him hilarious. His stand up is a riot. He will be in Tampa this next weekend. I will be there

Occasionally, when he’s on a talk show like Letterman, he will talk in a normal voice.

Actually, I think he’s pretty much abandoned it. His normal voice is no larksong either, but he’s dropped the nervous twitches and erratic squealing. I saw him on one of those Cam Nealy’s House comedy specials doing a passable Bono impression. Bobcat’s one of the better comics out there, but I think he’s been blackballed on TV since he set fire to The Tonight Show.

He used it most of the time on The Larry Sanders show.

I guess I’m alone-I find him extremely annoying.

I will second that notion, Guinastasia.

He’s annoying, but at least he’s original. Thats a whole lot more than you can say for most comics these days. Watch premium blend sometime…

THe most annoying thing about Bob Goldthwait isn’t his voice, or his utter lack of talent. It’s more his smugness. He LOVES to rant on and on about how awful this-or-that other comedian is…

But Bob, face it: on his worst day, Bob Hope never made a movie that sucked a bad as"Hot to Trot," and even Andrew Dice Clay would have turned down “Police Academy 3.”

What cracks me up is that he is busy bonking the hottie from Unhappily Ever After (Nikki Cox)

And the world goes EWWWWWW

Third-ed. He and Gilbert Gottfried should be covered in steak sauce and fed to wild hyenas. (Now there’s a reality show I’d watch!)

I think he is the funniest comic out there period. Dont judge by his movies, rent one of his stand up tapes.

I remember seeing him on Arsenio talking about Axel Rose. He had badmouthed Axel because of some racist coment and Axel had said “fuck bobcat”. Bobcat said on Arsenio “You know, He’s kinda cute, I might take him up on it if IV drug users werent in such a high risk group”…
He also was talking about Robert maplethorpe, and he said “He’s dead and he can piss off Jesse Helms, so he’s a hero in my book”

Oh, and I dont think he did the voice thing in Shakes the clown, or as Mr. Floppy the bunny in unhappily ever after.

From what I’ve heard, Goldthwait isn’t faking it; he has a genuine speech impediment. Sometimes, for comedic effect, he exaggerates it. Other times, he minimizes it.

He made a breif appearance in Blow as the coke buyer. (“I can’t feel my face”). He didn’t crack his voice much in that role.

Never liked his stand-up, appearances, or work in nearly any movie.

However…I find the flick Shakes the Clown extremely hilarious. As the tag-line proclaims, it is “The Citizen Kane of alcoholic clown movies.”

I always liked his work as Mr. Floppy on Unhappily Ever After. I don’t think he used any bizarro voice on that one.

Bobcat’s stand-up is hilarious. I have an HBO “One Night Stand” that he did about 10 years ago and it nearly makes me piss my pants to this day.

I knew if i hung out on these boards long enough, i would find i had something in common with Guinastasia. it has finally come to pass.

F.O., Bobcat!

Bob used both voices to good effect on The John Larroquette Show. He played the nephew of John’s boss, a character who happened to be a recovering alcoholic like John. Except Bob’s character relapses and uses his “normal” voice when drunk or hungover.

In Scrooged he played a normal guy. In one of his stand up acts he commented on the low quality of the movies ha hade made to that point. It was shortly after his kid was born and the joke was something like “shut up kid and come here and watch Police Academy 50” He’s just cashing the checks when it comes to movies, his real talent is in stand up.

It has been a number of years since I’ve seen one of his shows (on cable, of course).
