I like 'em. Hey, you asked…Timmy
Ethical? Eh, maybe not, but I did it anyway.
Just for the record, I’m not a vegetarian–I just eat 'em cause I like 'em.
I’ve never tried Boca Burgers that I know of but the best veggie burger I have ever had (for this non-vegetarian) is at Red Robin restaurants. I could eat those every day and not miss a hamburger.
I eat meat, but only meat from animals that were vegetarians.
Also, I only eat meat from animals that died from smoking. (blantant Denis Leary rip-off!)…Timmy
I like them toastered and put together with the regular hamburger fixings.
To me they don’t taste much like a real beef burger, but I think they are damn tasty.
Now I’m all for eating healthy. And if you have the self-control to eat fatty foods in moderation once in awhile, then bravo. And if you don’t believe in eating meat for any reason, foods like Boca are probably convenient.
I go to the gym, run for an hour, and hear some teenager remark snidely that I’m drinking a can of Pepsi… “ooh, that’s healthy”. A few years back people would comment if you ordered a diet drink with your fries and burger (why bother?). My point is, health (like recycling) is not black and white, not 100% or 0%. Small changes matter too.
That being said, you can make an excellent, low fat burger at home. Mix lean beef with a roughly equal portion of shaved carrots and/or mashed potato flakes. Add a couple squirts of ketchup and mustard, a squirt of soy or Worcestershire sauce, and a sprinkle of garlic powder, cayenne pepper, chili powder, parsley and whatever else floats your boat. Delicious, healthy and a fasr cry from the Boca and Yves of the world.
Boca burgers are the BEST veggie burger in the universe! Delicious with grilled onions & red pepper. My favorite is the vegan original.
All the other veggie burgers I’ve tried are full of weird things–something green or gray where you least expect it. I want my veggie burger to be a meat substitute, not some 60s organic crunchy blob.
Morning star products are the BEST! I love everything they make!
Boca is good (very good!) but if I eat it too much, i get burned out on the taste.
and I never nuke my burgers! ick I always grill them in a little olive oil yum
I’m going to vote against Boca burgers. Why? In my opinion they taste too much like a real hamburger. There are very few hamburgers that I like the taste of, so I don’t like the Boca taste at all.
I adore Morningstar Farms veggie burgers. And of course they taste nothing like a real hamburger.
I guess it just depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for something to taste like a real burger, you may be satisfied. For me, the Oven Roasted veggie burgers by Morningstar Farms are a great weeknight meal that I can whip up in 3 minutes and scarf down in probably another 3. No cooking here!
Meat alternative… Hmmm
OK… knowledgeable people… Help me out here…
I’m one of those meat eaters who prefers his meat toward the rare end of the spectrum. A bit more than drop it on the grill, flip it and eat it, but still… pink and juicy is a good thing in my taste lexicon.
So… Is there any likelihood that any of the meat substitute options above would provide a sumptuous repast for my taste buds coming anywhere near the experience of the real thing? My George Foreman grill’s just waiting for experimenting… so what would you recommend I try?

I think they taste most like a regular grilled hamburger of all the alternatives I’ve tried. Actually, they taste sort of like a somewhat past prime McDonalds regular hamburger.
BUT…they are absurdly expensive. Come on, guys, we know all that’s in there is some kind of soy stuff. They cost more than actual dead animal.
Morningstar Farms stuff is good, though, and you can get it at Trader Joe’s for a reasonable price. Their little fake chicken wing things are wickedly tasty.
I love love LOVE MorningStar ChikPatties! I could eat them every day!
Boca “Italian Sausages” on the other hand, are vile and disgusting. The texture was wrong, the tatse was wrong, and they smelled bad.
I never tried Boca Burgers, and I was a little scared to after that hideous “sausage” incident still so fresh in my mind, but I might just try them based on this thread. I just really hope their burgers are better than their sausages.
I don’t like Boca Burgers. But, I’ve been spoiled by the veggie burgers at “Waterloo Ice House” in Austin, Texas!
And, again, another hoorah for Morningstar Farms - they make a wonderful corndog. It tastes real to me!

It’s surprising to me that many so called Vegens go to great length to shape and prepare their “meatless” foods to resemble that of hamburgers, hot dogs etc… I for one as a satisfied carnivore would never try to shape my juicy ribeye or hamburger for that matter to resemble say, oh…brussel sprouts or some such thing.
