And penis ensues!
I’ve always liked Stairway to Heaven, myself.

Only amongst the dyslexic fans.
Sorry, but actually the best Queen song is “Fat Bottom Girls”. Thanks for playing.
Works for me.
No one’s mentioned Comfortably Numb? It gets my vote, assuming “Rock song” means “Classic rock song” which I think is what it means to most people. If we expand “rock song,” then I’d vote for American Idiot. That’s not a joke. I was into the whole Green Day bashing scene for a while, but that song has converted me.
That’s a rock opera song.
Star Trek + Bohemian Rhapsody + Anime here.
Layla is the greatest rock song of all time.
And if you don’t agree, you can fight over my 3-way tie for second place: Satisfaction, Honkey Tonk Woman and Brown Sugar.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” certainly achieves some sort of greatness. That song takes me on a wild ride, with all its ups and downs and twists and turns, that leaves me exhausted and grinning at the end. “I laughed! I cried! I rocked!”
How about Greatest Epic Rock Song?
BR is a great song, but I wouldn’t say greatest. Hard to choose, though … I guess my pick might be “Baba O’Riley.”
Actually … though I’m not sure if these qualify as “rock,” I’ll also nominate “Hotel California” and “A Day in the Life.” Especially the latter.
If I hear it in the car, am I compelled to make a fool out of myself jamming along? With that as a criterion, **Radar Love ** is a good suggestion. I’ll add **Mony Mony ** by Tommy James and the Shondells.
Hello? A little song called “I Wanna be Sedated” ring a bell with anyone?
You know, every time I see “Somebody to Love” by Queen I wonder what it would’ve been like if Jefferson Airplane covered Queen or Queen covered Jefferson Airplane.
The Greatest Rock Song is “Starship Trooper” by Yes. BR is pompous crap.
A guy nominating a Yes song is complaining about “pompous crap?”
Actually, this VH1 list is pretty good. Their top 10:
**
(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction
Respect
Stairway to Heaven
Like a Rolling Stone
Born to Run
Hotel California
Light My Fire
Good Vibrations
Hey Jude
Imagine**
Personally, I’d take Imagine and Light My Fire off the list, and replace them with Won’t Get Fooled Again and American Pie.
Bohemian Rhapsody comes in at #27.
No love for Master of Puppets? It’s definitely a better tune than BR.
Most of the ‘greatest’ nominations here have been so overplayed they should be disqualified on the grounds of saturation. I know I’m not the only one who either changes the station or or hits the >>| button on the iPod just about any time one of the all-time greats starts playing.
Even though it’s not my fave-all-time recording, I always said if I ever came across someone with a brand new cochlear implant and they asked me, “what rock song epitomizes the entire genre?”, I’d recommend they first listened to The Jeff Beck Group’s version of “Going Down”. True, it’s not a lyrical masterpiece, but it sure as hell does what it’s supposed to.
We’re on a wavelength. My first thought was “Blitzkrieg Bop,” followed immediately by “Shit for Brains” by Jack Logan.
Bohemian Rhapsody is interesting, but I certainly wouldn’t call it “good rock.” About half of the White Stripes’ first album is better rock songs than BR.
Oh, so that’s Radar Love. I had no idea. Thank you, iTunes.
Who’d a thunk a thread with “greatest rock song” in the title would have so much trouble finding a consensus.
I’ll take Supper’s Ready by Genesis please, but I ain’t even gonna try to defend it as a “rock” song what with the other comments here about what is and what is not “rock”.
