Binds is getting trashed because he is arrogant, a whiner, a jerk, and is “on the juice”. Babe Ruth and Henry Aaron all made their home runs without chemical help. In fact, Ruth was full of beer and hot dogs much of the time. Who knows what would have happened if he took better care if himself. As for Aaron, he earned his home run record and did it with class.
Woods doesn’t play baseball, but he gives the media plenty of reasons not to like him. He won’t grant interviews when he’s played badly, and his caddy is as protective as a mother hen. He never lets anyone into his personal life, and he gets all kinds of special treatment from the PGA.
If your contention that only Black baseball players are disrepsected by sports media, that seems rather silly.

Bonds has plenty of defenders from Bryant Gumble to baseball itself. It has nothing to do with Bond’s race and everything to do with the fact that: a) he’s a classless wanker and, b) he used illegal drugs to power up.
Rocker was almost universally reviled. Pete Rose’s reputation has been destroyed. McGwire basically hides from the media and Rafael Palmerio will never make the Hall after being caught.

And as we’ve all said, there are very few voices of support because Bonds has managed to alienate just about everyone. You seem to be ignoring the fact that he has played a big part in the way he gets treated by the press. If you asked someone a few questions and were treated to accusations and badmouthing in response, how would you approach that person in the future? There’s a difference between having a good relationship with the press and being a suck up. Dennis Rodman is a freak of nature, and yet the press still touts him as one of the greatest rebounders that ever played the game. He never kissed ass. He always told it like he saw it.
Is it possible that Bonds is an ass, a jerk, bad teammate, etc. and also treated differently because of race? Maybe individual dopers aren’t racist, and don’t harbor a racist bone their respective bodies, but I think Jebus raises an interesting point. That’s the thing with racism, what makes it so insidious. Pretty damn hard to prove definitively that people’s behaviors are determined and directed because of racial prejudice, but something smells funny…
I for one would be hesitant to explain or defend others’ behaviors or attitudes aside from my own. I’ll take people at their word, but it is hard for me to imagine that the Bonds drama would play out exactly the same if he was White. The history of the sport of baseball is so conflated with race drama it really begs a suspension of belief to think that his race has no role in what’s going on.
For the record, not a big baseball fan (aside from following the Sox), and I certainly think Bonds is at best a difficult personality.

When he was just a selfish, cocky prick, I defended him as a great player. When he turned into a racist, pumped up dickhead wanting to “wipe that white man out of the books” he lost me.

By the by, here’s some information on what Hank Aaron went through when he was chasing Babe Ruths record. That was racism. The press not liking you because you’re a jerk? Not even close.
Wow. I don’t realize the media was writing those letters to Aaron or that for Bonds to suffering from racism it had to be one of the worst examples of racism in the history of baseball.
It goes both ways. It’s almost impossible to disprove as well. Once “racism” is thrown into the mix it taints everyone and can prohibit legitimate criticism.
As for something smelling funny, Bonds has had issues with the media long before this. This isn’t a sudden thing. He brought it on himself. Baseball would love to be able to honor Bonds but his cheating and attitude makes that very difficult.
