Bonzo Buddy on my Computer

Like an idiot, I downloaded a “free” Bonzo Buddy download manager on my computer. The pitch was tha it was normally $50 and I’d get it free. It’s a gorilla that sings songs and tells jokes, but you have to pay for each of the things that it can do. It’s for children. However, I could not ignore it. When I refuse to sign up for the pitches, it still would be on my screen. I’d drag it off to the side, but in a short time it would come back with a new pitch.

So I dragged the icon to the Trash Bin and deleted it from there. However, it came up as my home page, with annoying visual pitches. So I went to my Internet Tools and typed in a different home page Comcast).

However, every time I boot up the computer, it displays a message that Windows has detected data corruption and I should go to such and such website to reinstall the data. The website is obviousl one for Bonzo Buddy. So I did now what I probably should have done to begin with. I went to the Control Panel, found the program for Bonzo Buddy, and attempted to remove it. However, I could not because the computer could not find the suffix (.exe) to remove it. Apparently I had deleted that part of the program that would allow me to remove it, but I had not removed the whole program. It’s still listed in my Control Panel. So now I’m suck with that annoying message every time I boot up the computer. It’s no big deal, but I would rather not have it. Does any one know if and how I can finally get rid of Bonzo Buddy?

Try reinstalling it and then deleting it from the Add/Remove programs on the Control Panel.

I thought of that, of course. But I cannot reinstall it. I clicked on the website, but I get the Page Cannot Be Displayed Message, which contains an alternate website, which also cannot be displayed.

If I do manage to reinstall it through another download promo, and then remove it, would I not still have the vestige of the first one still in my computer?

This piece of crap install bogged my computer worse than Napster downloading. You need to make sure that it has been completely de-installed. Email Bonzi.com and get assistance from their help desk. The only purple animal remotely more annoying than that gorilla is Barney.

My kids badgered me to install BonziBUDDY. (It was a green mynah bird last year, which they ditched in favor of the purple gorilla.)

The marketing trick is that BonziBUDDY makes nice and acts like your best friend. It keeps pitching all the fun stuff you can do together if only you’ll download the patches (and shell out $$$ for them, of course). When you tell it “No thanks,” its shoulders slump and it makes a dejected face–to make you feel guilty for hurting its “feelings”! What a crock.

In a very short time my kids tired of it. I got into the habit of getting rid of it by hitting Alt-Ctrl-Del as soon as Windows booted and closing it with the Close Program Dialogue Box. Finally I banished it forever, and very neatly. How? With CyberMedia Uninstaller–one of the most useful pieces of software in the world.

Now you are singing my tale of woe…

My ex-husband helpfully installed it on the computer while I was at the store. Apparently he thought this annoying little thing would be cute and keep me amused. I didn’t. You may already be seeing some of the reasons that he is my ex.

Ok, Feynn deletes it for me. But instead of uninstalling it (which is what I was planning on doing), he dumps it in the trash, which is why I got the same error message you did. To fix it, my sister searched through the files on the computer, and found another file with “Bonzi” in it, and deleted it. That took care of the problem.

Thanks to every one, esp. Iolagranola. I just read your message and found 3 more Bonzi things I hadn’t dumped. I trashed them and will remove them from the trash bin. I hope this works. I didn’t think of searching for Bonzi on my computer since I had found a program with that name and didn’t think there were other components somewhere lurking around.

It worked! That did it. Thanks again.

There are strong suspicions that Bonzi Buddy is spyware as well:
