Book recommendations?

I tried to search, hell, I even bought a subscription today just to search for this, and of course I can’t search the word “war” because it’s too short. So I decided I’d try my luck starting a new thread.

I used to be a heavy reader, at least a book a week, if not more. Something happened around when I started college and I just stopped cold turkey. The last time I read a book all the way through was at least a year ago.

I like war books. Specifically, ones about conventional modern warfare. Older (Pre-Vietnam era) war books just don’t interest me enough. Anything post-USSR would be the best.

War books aren’t the only qualification here. A good stoner comedy book, or just a generic comedy book would be great too. Really, just name a good book you’ve read recently that I should read. I just don’t have any ideas.

Thanks, and if anyone asks anything to narrow it down, I’ll answer specific questions, I just can’t think of anything to open it up on the OP.

Fiction or non-fiction?

What’s your definition of “conventional”? Armies massing and shooting at each other? Has there been a “conventional” war anywhere in the last 50 years?

Try the works of John Ringo. The Posleen War series is pretty good, and is up to what, 6 books now? Or for really over-the-top war/sex/BDSM fantasy, try his Paladin of Shadows books. The first one (Ghost) is just silly, but the next 4 are pretty good, and #4 (Unto The Breach) is freaking intense.
