Another good example of this genre: The Axis of Time trilogy by John Birmingham. A modern day naval task force gets sent back to World War II.

Actually, it is a future task force. From the '20s I believe, with the center piece of the TF was the aircraft carrier USS Hillary Clinton.

Seconded. Somewhat similar in tone is the Destroyermen series by Taylor Anderson… an American WWII destroyer ends up in an alternate world where the dominant life forms are dinosaurs and intelligent lemurs.

I have just started getting into this one. The first book was pretty good, looking forward to picking up the next one.
