Books that focus on food.

The Cook by Harry Kressing is well worth a read if you can get hold of a copy. A mysterious stranger dressed in black comes to town… and gets a job as cook for one of two feuding familys!

Historical children’s fiction by Helen Fern Daringer, especially Debbie of the Green Gate, Country Cousin, and Adopted Jane, is notable for this. The first one is about a girl who sets sail on the Mayflower at the end of the book, and I keep thinking, “Better enjoy the good food you have in Holland before you go!”

The short story “A Piece of Pie” by Damon Runyan is about an eating contest, and describes the many courses. Mmm…
