If you were born in the United States from foreign parents, do you feel
proud
uneasy
3 shameful
What if your parents came from an English speaking country ?
or from Poland, Italy, an Asiatic country etc.
Does that make any difference ?
Would the children of Irish parents feel prouder, as it seems, of their ascendency than, say, the children of Laotians ?
(Hope this thread is not going to be a round table for Irish to brag about their ascendency )
I just asked my husband, whose father came from a Latin Amercian country. He said “none of the above.” I think he just sees it as a fact of life, not anything to be proud or ashamed of.
I don’t see why different ethnicities woiuld take different pride in where they come from. Why would it be better to have an Irish parent than a Laotian parent?
(As for me, I’m an Australian; my mother was English; and on my father’s side it is possible that one great grandparent was Chinese, but we aren’t really sure. I take some pride in my English heritage, and I wish I knew more about my Chinese heritage, so that I cxould takre real pride in that too.).
