Both parents Dx with Alzheimers

Anyone else?

Both with verified markers, I am told. Dad died over 10 yrs. ago, and now mother. Beside all the craziness dealing with an ALZ patient, again, there’s my feeling of impending doom. I cannot forget anything; an author’s name, a song title, a street address, anything, that doesn’t send me into doubt and fear. I’ve researched, and I see my doctor regularly, am on statins, workout, play word games, but I stress. From my research, it does appear my chances are increased signigicantly by this.

Ouch. That sucks, no two ways about it. What ages were your parents when they showed significant symptoms?

My cousin is in the same boat – both my uncle and aunt had/have ALZ. My uncle passed maybe 7 years ago. My aunt was formally diagnosed the day after his funeral.

My mother also had it. Her 5th anniversary is this week.

One’s chances of getting it does increase if a direct relative has it, but it doesn’t mean with certainty that you will also have it.

Don’t worry about it. I was terrified of schizophrenia until I turned thirty. I had aunts and uncles, total of three from both sides of the family who had it. One of them was in the dangerous category, and made local headlines from one episode because of the violence. So when I developed panic attacks at the age of twenty-four I thought for sure I was going to be schizophrenic as well. I’m over forty now and will probably never be schizophrenic. Either way I stopped worrying about it. Just stay healthy, and not worry about it.

Sorry to hear about your folks.

I would do some research online and look for a study.

Of course, there are all types of new drugs that need testing, but it would be helpful with your history and the known genetic markers to simply gather information on you and any siblings.

Your participation could help people in the future.

Alzheimer’s is a thief that takes too much. Perhaps you can help give back.
