I don’t think so; it was a WAG based on Russian folklore.
When I was but a wee Professor my father got me a recording of Sterling Holloway narrating Peter and the Wolf , with an accompanying book. I learned to read from that book. I particularly recall Sterling spelling out “W-O-L-F, Wolf!”
One of the characters in Disney’s version is Ivan The Cat, performed on the clarinet, “in a very low register.”
