The underwear story is from the book of Jeremiah - it has been translated as linen girdle, linen belt or linen underwear. Jehovah tells Jeremiah to get a fresh, clean pair of shorts and bury them. When he digs them up again, they’re ‘soiled’. Later on, The Lord tells Jeremiah that he will cleave unto Judah like a girdle/belt/pair of tighty whities. Certainly one of the passages that makes non-believers wonder what point it is they’re missing…
