Botticelli - June 2013

That was Halston

DQ: Die of natural causes?

#1 is Bob Hope (Bing was the friend he was hanging with); #2 is Hoagy Carmichael; Ben Harrison is right. Living in Indy’s not bad: we have art museums, zoos, opera, theater, a couple of SCA chapters, the Indianapolis 500, the Colts, the Pacers, etc., etc. It’s green and the the weather’s only bad in the heat of summer and the cold of winter.

DQ: Painter or sculptor?

Not Hamilton, but Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker.
William Henry Harrison, usually left off historians’ ratings of the Presidents due to his too-short administration.
Yes, Hagrid.

DQs:

Won the top award in your field?

One DQ reserved.

IQs:

Although an accomplished leader, did you make the same mistake twice?
Did a cartoonist show you with a much-too-big hat?
Did a kitten almost leap into your daughter’s arms?

Hmph. A Biblical scholar, I see. I was actually after a different prophet, but I sense I’m merely playing to your strength.

IQ1: Are you a character played by Dan Blocker?
IQ2: Are you a character played by Adam Sandler?
IQ3: Are you a character played by Laurence Olivier, Mel Gibson and Kenneth Brannagh?

  14. Won many awards, but I’m not sure if there is a top award in this field (does Hall of Fame count?)

Three DQs.

Not Hoss Cartwright or Hamlet. DQ for 2.

Adm. William Halsey twice had his fleet caught in typhoons.
Benjamin Harrison was shown wearing his grandfather’s hat, which was clearly too big, implying he wasn’t up to the job as President.
Hillary Clinton and her family acquired Socks the cat when he was very friendly to Chelsea.

DQs:

Best known for an art form that you see?
Died since 1980?

Two DQs reserved.

IQs:

Were you the wife of a long-serving Republican governor?
Did you give a government agent a drink you knew would be unpleasant for him?
Did your dad train you to be a tiny badass?

Benjamin Harrison: ZUI posts 418 and 422.

Three DQs.
Gerald Ford was in one of those Typhoons, IIRC…

IRT 6: I may be defining the Arts slightly more broadly than before, but I certainly can’t think of any other way to classify this. And part of it does definitely come under the heading of entertainment of some sort…

DQ: Best known for TV appearances?

IQs:

  1. Were you paired up with Maurice Chevalier in Gigi?
  2. Are you usually credited with the discovery of Uranus?
  3. Did you insist in your will that none of your poems be set to music, then found yourself posthumously thwarted when musicals were made from your novels?

Happy Rockefeller, wife of Nelson.
Hogarth Hughes, in The Iron Giant.
The lead character in the recent thriller Hanna.

Sorry - I’d overlooked Benjamin Harrison earlier. Withdrawn.

DQs:

Best known for an art form that is listened to?
Died since 2000?

IQs:

Were you a diplomat with a fishy name?
Did someone hide behind you when you were both under enemy fire?
Were you a carpenter when your other, later much more successful, career seemed to have stalled?
What about cuisine? Any American chefs who fit those dates?
20. Died since 2000

Well, that’s 20. Though I’m tempted to dump 9 and 16, as having been superseded by 20…

Not William(?) Herschel or Victor Hugo. DQ for 1.

Three DQs.

ZUI DQ 19…

Hermione Gingold in Gigi. (She was also in The Music Man.)

Time to turn up the volume on the old Thinkometer.

Sound effects? Sound editor? Foley artist?

I confess, I’m stuck - actor, musician (by which I’m assuming you mean ‘instrumentalist’ - singers are musicians, too, and excluding them from the umbrella term ‘musician’ causes ill will amongst fellow singers…) cover many other jobs in ‘art forms that you listen to’. Conductor - musician. Radio performer - actor. Radio Disc Jockey - actor and sometimes musician. Record producer - most of the ones I can think of are musicians.

Puzzling…

I don’t think I’d classify a DJ as an actor as such. Performer, but not actor. OTOH, I can’t think of a notable DJ whose last name starts with “H” unless it’s Wolfman Jack (whose last name I don’t know).

Hamilton Fish, U.S. Grant’s SecState.
Henry Knox, who was quite large, while being shelled at Yorktown. Knox was said to be both irritated and amused.
Harrison Ford.

Our mystery person could also be a radio announcer or talk-show host. Can’t think of any who’ve died since 2000, though. Hmm…

nm

Still puzzled. Think think think.
