Botticelli June 2023

Thanks! No, like the Prof, I’ve only read that one once - it’s not one of my favorite of Gaiman’s. But in hindsight, I realize you gave me a pretty big clue in your answer

I figured it had to be a Gaiman character, then. As an interesting side note, I went back and looked at the character list for Neverwhere, to see if I’d overlooked one. Google took me to the website for the BBC Radio 4 production in 2013, and holy moly, I didn’t realize it was so full of future stars - James McAvoy as Richard Mayhew, Natalie Dormer as Door, Anthony Head as Mr. Croup, David Harewood as the Marquis de Carabas, Benedict Cumberbatch (perfect!) as the Angel Islington, and Christopher Lee (!) as the Earl of Earl’s Court.

Okay, next person coming soon!

Congrats Slow moving Vehicle. I’ve read a bunch of Gaiman but not that one. Although even if I had I probably wouldn’t remember it. I’m exceptionally bad remembering names. I can binge watch 20 episodes of a series and still not remember the name of the main character out of context. :frowning:

SMV, players are not supposed to do research in Botticelli. The Game Master can, but only to ensure correct answers.

EH is right.

Linking to the rules as we do 'em: Botticelli General Questions - #31 by Prof.Pepperwinkle

Yes, I know that using the internet is cheating; doing so takes all the challenge out of the game, and then what’s the point?

In my own defense, after @ChockFullOfHeadyGoodness’s hint

I knew the answer had to be a character from one of Neil Gaiman’s one-off novels. I also strongly suspected wasn’t one from Neverwhere or Coraline, after his “or ???” addendum to my DQ. 23. American Gods was out, as that has sequels in “Monarch of the Glen” and Anansi Boys (sort of). Mirrormask was a graphic novel. So that left The Ocean at the Bottom of the Lane, and The Graveyard Book, both of which I’d read but whose protagonists’ exact names I couldn’t recall. (It also left his recent book about Norse mythology, but those obviously aren’t original characters.)

So I’d pretty much narrowed it down before I went to Google to confirm Bod’s name. I could also tell from the rest of y’all’s responses that you were stumped.

However, I will submit this to the judgment of the group; if you feel I’ve violated the spirit of the game, I will forfeit my guess and let @ChockFullOfHeadyGoodness pick another; whatever you all feel is fair. I won’t interfere in your discussion, but abide your judgment.

No, go ahead and host the next round.

Thanks, but I’ll wait for @Elendil_s_Heir, @ChockFullOfHeadyGoodness, and @Buck_Godot to weigh in.

I’m fine with you getting credit for the win. I threw in the “or ???” as a hint that Gaiman was the author, and you picked up on it.

I think CFOHG ought to go again. Just my two cents’ worth.

I’m okay with that. I’d rather lose the round than have one of the other players think I won unfairly. And @Elendil_s_Heir is a poster whose opinion I regard.

Sounds like I’m up again. After checking the list
