  23. Poet

Hmmm. Can’t think of anyone who fits all these clues (especially #2).

I’m lost. Poetry is not at all a strong point. Or plays if he was a playwright.

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees.
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas.
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding—
Riding—riding—
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.

I am Sir Alfred Noyes, poet and teacher best known for such gems as The Highwayman, The Barrel Organ and the popular children’s poem, Daddy Fell Into The Pond.

Looking at his bio on Wikipedia, I learned that his American 2nd wife had him visit the USA, which he liked so much he divided his time between England (or Wales) and the U.S. He was invited to teach at Princeton, where one of his students was F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Next up: I am W.

I’ve heard of him, but I have to admit I always thought he was American.

  1. Are you the mother of Zoe, Hammie and Wren?
  2. Did you win the Best Actor Oscar for 1931’s The Champ?
  3. Are you an evil wizard who is also a wedding planner on Galavant?
  1. I am not Wanda MacPherson.
  2. I am not Wallace Beery.
  3. I forget. Take a DQ.

Alfred (not Sir Alfred) Noyes? Never heard of him.

IQ1: Were you a university president and a governor of New Jersey?
IQ2: Were you a president and a chief justice?
IQ3: Are you the Earl of Strathearn?

  1. I am not Woodrow Wilson.
  2. I am not William Howard Taft.
  3. I am not Prince William (??)
