    Take 2 more DQs

Doper etv was taken to task in the Pit a little while ago: What does etv78 bring to this board?. Some of the posts were not very kind. He may have just decided to give the SDMB a rest for a while.

As an aside: there is an SDMB Facebook page?

#2 was Pablo Casals. #3 was the posturing and pretentious Pierre-Paul Prud’hon.

Reserving 2 DQs for the moment.

Pondering my 3 remaining DQs…

DQ: From a comedic work?

After all there’s HHGTG, which started on radio, and Beyond The Fringe, which was a stage production…

Previous IQs:

Does your own[er] not suspect you’re actually a secret agent? - Yes, Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb.
Do you often appear on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me? - Yes, Paula Poundstone.
Did your own brother succeed you in high office? - I am chagrined to admit I now don’t remember who I was thinking of, so I’ll waive this question.

I see we’re near the end of our DQs anyway, so I’ll just sit here quietly and hit myself in the head for the nonce…

  19. Not created after 2000

Not from print, TV nor originally from movies. A Brit by a British author, created 1960-2000, probably 20th Century setting. Protagonist, nominally a good guy, not from SF/Fantasy/Mystery/Comedy. Not from a series of stories. Unusual first name.

Maybe originated, therefore, on stage or radio. My knowledge of British radio is pretty much limited to comedies.

Ponder, ponder, ponder…

I’m stumped for the moment, too, but will think a bit more on it…

I think the “good guy” description may need more explication. I certainly feel I’m the good guy by virtue of my story (and the film adaptation) being told from my point of view. Not all other characters share this view. My wife thinks I’m a uncommunicative “little shit”.

Last 2 DQs:

  1. From a play?
  2. Created after 1980?

thinking out loud
What else do they adapt movies from except things in print? Has there ever been a movie made after a painting or a statue? By a British author? But not in print?

Aha, we had Eleanor Rigby once. It could be someone from a song. Can’t think who offhand.
