3 DQs
Under the longstanding Doper Botticelli house rules, in order to answer a DQ accurately - and only for that purpose - you’re permitted to do research.
Keith David, another actor, during the filming of Platoon, when the helicopter they were in unexpectedly banked. Sheen fell towards the door and would have dropped to the ground far below but for David grabbing him.
Mystery writer Dashiell Hammett.
Very fast little kid Dashiell “Dash” Parr, in The Incredibles.
Three DQs reserved.

Thanks.
Babe Didrickson.

Dorie Miller.
Three more DQs reserved, for a total of six.
No American Olympic female track stars with a last name beginning with “D” spring to mind. Anyone else?
Shoulda known Babe Zaharias!
…anyone?
I’ll take one of EH’s DQs, if that’s ok.
DQ: Are you a sprinter?
I’m honestly not sure where that’s going to get me, since I can’t think of any runners whose last names start with D, but maybe narrowing down the event will jog someone’s memory.
Sadly, my knowledge of female American track stars is lacking.
IQ1: Did you use a big stick in your olympic pursuit?
IQ2: Were you best known for your fingernails?
Those are the two Olympians, last name “D”, that I can think of…
I’m not a sprinter
Not Stacy Dragila or Gail Devers.
Still drawing a blank.
Please update the DQ answers, etv78.
I am at a loss too, sorry EH. I thought it would have been Gail Devers.
Some table talk; sick as a dog and under deadline pressure at the moment…
When I say ‘track’, that still covers a lot of stuff. ‘Doesn’t involve a ball’ may still involve a shot, and that might be a worthwhile clarification to ask for. etv78 - does your definition of ball extend to any round object?
Even without the 100M (and arguably the 200M - where do you draw the line between sprinting and running?), there’s still the 400M, marathon, 5km, 10km and 20km events. Then there’s the long list of ‘other’ track events - hurdling, discus, shot put, high jump, long jump, decathlon, pentathlon…
I also find myself wondering if these Olympic gold medals are the only thing this person might be famous for - it’s been 12 years since the Sidney Olympics, and there’s every possibility Ms. D. may have done something else, even if it’s only coaching in the sport in which she earned a medal.
When I hear “track” I think “everything on the track that takes place during the Athletics events”, which is also sometimes called “track and field”. Shot, discuss, javelin, etc. are the “field” portions of that.
To me “ball” does not include the shot. reask the DQs please, I can’t see them upthread.
All right, I’ll borrow a DQ, if I may -
DQ - Are this person’s athletic accomplishments the ONLY reason that she should be considered as renowned as Botticelli?
