I know bovine relates to cows and oxen. I know that porcine relates to pigs. What about other animals? Do they have -ine adjectivial forms?
Off the top of my head:
Sheep: Ursine
Cat: Feline
Dog: Canine
Fox: Vulpine
Most of them do; exceptions include avian (birds) and simian (apes).
Here is one of the lists I found on-line by Googling for bovine, ursine and porcine.
Lepine - rabbits.
Actually, sheep are ovine. Bears are ursine.
Goats are caprine.
Horses are equine.
Um, sheep is OVine…
:smack: Sheep: Ovine
Bear: Ursine
Sorry.
Here’s another one I found:
Songbird: Oscine
From the link, cow = bovine or vaccine. Would that still be pronounced vak-SEEN or would the pronunciation change to rhyme with bovine?
Murine is used for mice and rats, I believe.
And ‘urine’ is used for exrection of urea.
And Listerine is used for bad breath
Corvine = Crow-like.
Regards,
Shodan
Donkey = asinine.
Seriously.
Piscine - havng to do with with fish
