Boy Scouts To Accept Girls

The Scouts in Canada and the UK are base on the writings of Baden-Powell. In the US the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) are often associated with religious groups. The Mormons, Methodists, and Catholics are the three largest organizations associated with the BSA. Until recently you could not be openly gay in the BSA or an Atheist. I still don’t think they let Atheist in.

Why not just introduce the merit badge system and the ranking system into the girl scouts, to where it would be more like the boy scouts. Seems that would be the less controversial way to go about it. That way they could have similar merit badge challenges and maybe even introduce some of there own!

Where does it end? Can men join the ladies auxillary? Will the Masons allow women to join? Or the Lions Club? Sometimes “it is what it is!” Is the option for the boys gonna be the same? Can they join the girl scouts? Looks like a big ol can of worms to be opening! Just sayin

Psst: Girl Scouts has all that.

I bought $40 worth of gourmet popcorn from my young neighbour girl in support of her Cub Scout troop. She said she switched from Guides because she wanted to do outdoor stuff instead of arts and crafts.

Is it really necessary to sexualize and make crude jokes about young girls like this? Brownie Girl Scouts are 7-9 years old. Don’t do it; it’s uncalled for.

FWIW, I was a Girl Scout leader (and former Scout) and most of what we did was camping, nature related, leadership, and community service. There are badges, merit levels, and big service projects similar to Eagle Scouts.

I learned to change the oil and tires on car, did primitive winter camping all in high school. For my girls we did hiking, letterboxing, camping, science, and community service. Sure we did do some crafts when the girls were Daisy and Brownie Scouts, but Weblo (Boy Scouts) did leather crafts and pine car derbies etc. Boy Scouts do crafts too.

Thanks, ITD, for the hot mod action, that was bugging the crap out of me.

Oh, and just to be pedantic, it’s WEBELOS, for WE’ll BE LOyal Scouts. A little BSA trivia courtesy of my misspent youth.

Right- my stepson went all the way through Eagle but that was many moons ago…

Who’s going to change the first coed scout couple’s baby?

Duh, Scouts go camping in the woods.

Anyone consider what a curious bunch of young coed teens will get up to?

I was a Scout until 15. Earned my Star badge and was working on my Life badge. I lost interest after learning to drive.

There was one troop leader with us on camping trips. Keeping an eye on an entire troop (about 20 kids).

It’s just a matter of time before the first news headlines. Sexual harassment in the woods!

I guess there’s no limit to the stupidity in today’s world.

Or, y’know, maybe the Scouts will grasp the fucking nettle and teach their members that sexual harassment is not okay no matter who’s involved and what their genitalia. Kind of the same way a bunch of boy scouts out in the woods together does not automatically result in the youngest ones coming back with buggered butts. Respect for one’s comrades, what a concept.

:dubious: Uh, whichever parent is awake, one hopes. Was this question supposed to be a stumper?

I am 100% certain you have; do tell!

There are, of course, plenty of coed groups already, groups that go on overnight trips together. I don’t like to talk about my teenaged life much, but trust me, back in the eighties kids were taking full advantage of those opportunities.

Wait. Are you seriously saying that this change is going to lead to headlines about sexual abuse of young scouts on overnight trips? For real, that’s what’s gonna happen? Like, you’ve not paid attention to any headlines about scouting scandals over the last four decades?

Not touching that one.

LOL

Right, it’ll be a Disney nature film complete with sound track.

The first year of puberty is intense. That initial jolt of hormones messes with your head. That’s true of boys and girls.

If people want to pretend 13 year olds will act responsibly. Then I wish you luck and success with that.

I’m a bit more cynical.

You 100% missed my point, and you are far less, not more, cynical than I.

Sorry LHD. Your post slipped in while I was replying to SmartAleq.

Teen pregnancy rates have been steadily dropping for many years. I hope making Scouting coed doesn’t change that trend.

Imho the drop is because of better access to sex-ed information and birth control. Teens today are still as curious about sex as ever.

Over the years I’ve noticed a correlation between people who automatically assume everyone else has sex willy nilly with any other person based on no other factor than proximity with people who’ve never actually had sex. Interesting how that works.

You gotta rewrite that sentence, dude.

Naw, I like it the way it is. I know what I mean and probably few others will and that’s probably for the best.

All right, then. Now you gotta diagram it.

Protest all you want. That’s your sentence.
